The Role
Seeking a Senior Design Engineer to carry out objectives for the business. Goal is to improve knowledge, understanding and capability.
Overall technical champion for the design processes and ensure engineering is carried out correctly by setting policy, best practices, systems etc.
Oversee and guide with direction of MD, the engineering activities for product development:
Initial phases: Conceptual engineering, benchmarking and other marketing analysis, range/config planning, SWOT analysis etc.
Detailed design: drawings, FEAs, detailed calculations, BOMs, product costing, DFMEA, standards compliance, documentation creation, liaising with suppliers.
Prototype build and test: Liaise with manufacturing and assembly teams, record notes on improvements, help control and undertake testing of the product.
Product release: Updates to the design, costing, DFMEA and other documentation before release.
Perform standardisation activities across their range at feature, component and assembly levels. This will include updates to existing designs as well as parametric mass-creation of a standard design to multiple sizes.
The Candidate
At least an engineering degree in a mechanical engineering related field.
7+ years’ experience in an engineering design role.
Excellent ability with CAD systems and ability to undertake simulations using FEA.
Knowledge of mechanical / fluid handling equipment, ideally rotating equipment.
Familiar with manufacturing capabilities (typical tolerances) and processes: turning, milling, drilling, reaming, EDM, grinding, welding etc.
Fundamental understanding and ability to implement GD&T.
Familiar with high pressure fluid systems including fittings, piping, flanges, instrumentation etc.
Familiar with common engineering materials such as steels, bronzes, elastomers etc and heat treatment processes.
