Lawyer – Local Authority About the Role
RI Talent is currently working with a well-established local authority seeking an experienced Lawyer to join its Legal Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified legal professional to work on a broad range of public sector matters within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
The successful candidate will provide high-quality legal advice to officers, members and stakeholders, supporting key decision-making processes and helping deliver effective services to the local community.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide accurate and practical legal advice across a range of local government matters.
* Manage a varied caseload including drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documentation.
* Attend and advise at committee meetings, sub-committees and business meetings where required.
* Represent the organization at court, tribunals, hearings and public inquiries where appropriate.
* Draft and review reports, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
* Use legal case management and document management systems effectively.
* Support colleagues within the legal team and contribute to continuous service improvement.
* Identify and manage legal risks while supporting operational and strategic objectives.
Candidate Requirements
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX professional (or equivalent relevant experience).
* Previous experience providing legal advice within local government or the public sector.
* Specialist knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
* Property
* Planning
* Commercial Contracts
* Litigation
* Housing Disrepair
* Strong drafting, negotiation and advocacy skills.
* Ability to manage a busy and varied caseload effectively.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
* Experience using legal technology and case management systems.

Additional Information
The role may require attendance at evening meetings and occasional work outside normal office hours.
