South Staffs Water is seeking a Commercial Lead to drive cost recovery, supply chain management, and programme efficiency for capital schemes ranging from water service connections to strategic reinforcement projects. This role is pivotal in ensuring that Developer Services delivers an annual programme that remains cost-neutral, balancing spend and revenue while maximising value for money.

The Commercial Lead role offers the opportunity to take ownership of financial strategy, optimise operational efficiency, and drive impactful change within Developer Services.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure effective supply chain management, delivering value for money from the creation of accurate works scope and design, through to productive delivery and applications for payment
Ensure internal processes effectively allocate spend and revenue accurately within company systems
Identify the key drivers for delivering a cost neutral service across scheme types, for example gang productivity, quote accuracy, charging gaps, scope changes, cost of failure and deliver an action plan to address these drivers
Provide monthly reporting on spend and revenue successes and opportunities
Provide input and challenge the monthly contractor application process
Recover outstanding revenue from developer customers where applicable
Calculate and collate the annual developer charges
What You’ll Need:
Financial and data analysis expertise, working with spreadsheets, interrogating data, and generating reports
Strong stakeholder management with proven experience building relationships and communicating improvement actions effectively
Strategic thinking by prioritising high-value opportunities within a broad programme
Excellent customer communication skills with the ability to explain cost recovery professionally while maintaining a positive experience
Experience in financial analysis, quantity surveying, or contract management
Knowledge of utilities or construction industries
Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, taking initiative and driving results
Education & Qualifications
Full UK Driving Licence
Contract management, quantity surveying, or financial qualifications
