Orthopaedic Care Assistant

We are looking for a compassionate, motivated and enthusiastic Orthopaedic Care Assistant to join our busy and dynamic Orthopaedics team. You will play a vital role in supporting nurses, therapists and the wider MDT to deliver high quality care.
Main duties of the job
* Support the nursing and therapy team in delivering fundamentals of care as per NMC and in their treatment and rehabilitation by practicing exercise, transfer and mobility.
* Use a wide variety of manual handling equipment to support treatments such as hoist, sliding sheets, rota‑stand, sliding board, walking frames, crutches and sticks.
* Work across a variety of settings and clinical areas, supporting team operational delivery of care by helping with daily planning and adapting to staffing/operational pressures.
* Carry out a limited range of clinical duties with minimal or no supervision, including blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation, temperature, pulse, respiration, glucose monitoring and collection/testing of urine, faecal, sputum samples and wound swabs.
* Transport patients to radiology and other clinical departments within the Trust for scheduled procedures or consultations and discharge from hospital.
* Follow instructions from senior staff and managers, using knowledge and experience to make decisions within your area of responsibility.
* Assist patients to achieve independence by providing appropriate support within the scope of practice and under supervision.
* Attend annual mandatory training sessions and complete the care certificate and related competencies.

Qualifications
* Maths and English Level 2
* Evidence of clear concise communication skills in written and spoken English
* Care certificate
Experience
* Experience as a Health Care assistant or Therapy assistant
* Awareness of needs of older people/vulnerable patients
* Previous rehabilitation experience
* Experience of delivering reablement care
* Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
