Your Role as an ALN Teaching Assistant in Newport
In this position, you will play a vital role in supporting learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). Working alongside experienced teaching staff, you’ll help create a positive and engaging learning atmosphere tailored to each pupil’s individual needs.
You’ll be supporting children with:
1. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
2. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
3. Speech and language difficulties
4. PMLD and complex needs
Key Duties
5. Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with ALN
6. Assist in classroom activities, lesson preparation, and behaviour management
7. Encourage student independence, confidence, and social development
8. Follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and safeguarding policies
9. Provide personal care where necessary
What We’re Looking For
10. Previous experience supporting children or young people with ALN (PMLD experience advantageous)
11. A patient, resilient, and proactive attitude
12. Strong teamwork and communication skills
13. Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
14. Relevant TA or ALN qualifications are beneficial but not essential
