This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to join Medway NHS Foundation Trust (Medway FT) as a Clinical Psychologist within our dynamic and collaborative Multidisciplinary Pain Management Team. The team currently comprises highly experienced Pain Consultants, an Occupational Therapist, a Chronic Pain Nurse Specialist, and dedicated administrative staff. We are committed to delivering holistic and patient-centred care to individuals experiencing persistent pain and are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Psychologist to complete our team.
The successful candidate will serve as the sole psychologist in the team, providing essential psychological expertise and interventions to enhance the management and treatment of chronic pain. This is a pivotal role that requires a strong foundation in psychological theory and practice, a passion for patient care, and the ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to the team environment.
The specialist psychologist in the pain management team conducts comprehensive assessments using diverse data sources, including tests, interviews, and observations, to understand complex pain conditions. They develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans addressing physical and psychological issues, delivering interventions to patients, families, and groups across settings. They integrate complex theoretical models with patient history to guide clinical decisions and hold responsibility from assessment to discharge.
They provide expert psychological advice to multidisciplinary teams and external professionals, contribute to patient formulation, and manage risk assessments. Clear communication ensures sensitive information is shared effectively to support coordinated care. The psychologist embeds psychological perspectives within the team, offers consultation, and facilitates appropriate referrals.
