We are looking for a Welfare Rights Team Manager for the Council's Welfare Rights Team.
This small team provides training and advice to front-line workers in adult social care, children's services, and the voluntary and community sector.
In complex cases, it offers advice and support directly to service users, including representing individuals in tribunals where appropriate.
The Team Manager and team members also advise senior managers on broader policy issues related to the benefits system and support the development of effective advice arrangements across Northumberland, including collaborations with third sector organizations and other public bodies.
The team is based in the directorate responsible for adult social care. This is a permanent, full-time role based at County Hall in Morpeth. You will be encouraged to develop links with service managers and gain a strong understanding of social care operations and their interaction with the benefits system.
We seek someone with extensive welfare rights experience, including challenging benefit decisions up to First tier Tribunal level, and experience working alongside statutory social care services. A good understanding of the needs of ill and disabled people, their support services, and benefits is essential. Experience in developing, organizing, and delivering training is also required. You should be skilled in preparing or guiding submissions to decision-makers at all levels, including tribunals, applying relevant laws to individual circumstances. Supervisory experience is also necessary.
For more information, please see the attached job description and person specification.
