Job Description:


Section 1: Job Summary

The role is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of processes and assignments for the asset reliability function, which comprises the maintenance and calibration team. It supports organizational objectives and business goals by maintaining and repairing Make assets, including equipment used in production processes. The role implements project terms to meet the objectives and goals of the asset reliability team and ensures the reliability and performance of the organization's equipment capital investments. It also ensures compliance of repair processes and maintenance programs with safety regulations and serves as a primary point of contact for team members.

The role holder will benchmark the high-level vision, key initiatives, and subsequent asset improvement and team development plans, including key performance measures, objectives, and goals. The role will engage cross-functional teams, including the wider engineering team, production, quality, and supply, to ensure supply chain engineering deliverables meet customer-specific needs and expectations.


Section 2: Duties & Responsibilities

Embeds Quality First, Safety Always Culture.

Works with Line Manager to develop and implement strategic asset reliability and maintenance engineering goals & objectives.

Supports the implementation of asset reliability, capital investment, and plant strategic initiatives.

Assists with coordination of processes and assignments for asset reliability, maintenance engineering, and asset calibration activities to ensure the delivery of consistent maintenance programs and engineering repair projects.

Leads the implementation of preventive maintenance programs, equipment repairs, equipment calibration, and maintenance engineering projects that contribute to the optimization and increased productivity of the organization’s manufacturing facilities and equipment.

Devises risk assessments and provides input regarding the integration and utilization of new equipment and machinery by conducting engineering reviews of proposed equipment to assess reliability, maintenance costs, calibration activities, and safety risks.

Responsible for managing operational aspects of their team (e.g., workflow, performance, and compliance), as well as ensuring achievement of team goals within expected standards and timelines.

Maintains steady workflow and productivity, resolving operational decisions within the team.


Supply

Supports day-to-day operations through attendance at Value Stream daily meetings and the timely closure of actions across the team.

Evaluates performance of production stages to determine process engineering faults, equipment failures, and compliance risks, providing insights for process optimization.

Understands and applies Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives in day-to-day interactions with team.

Works as a strategic partner with other departments to develop MedTech as a Best-in-Class orthopaedics plant and a flagship within J&J.

Provides leadership within Engineering and Technical Services to deliver superior business results aligned with objectives.

Designs programs and parameters for asset reliability functions, including project estimates for design, repair, or replacement of equipment, installation, labor, materials, and related costs.

Leads, directs, and prioritizes technical knowledge and resources to support the asset reliability team, sharing best practices across the UK and other Joints sites.

Contributes to policy and procedure communication to ensure team compliance with standard operating procedures and regulations.


Cost

Manages the engineering budget for maintenance and calibration areas.

Provides weekly and monthly updates on financial performance related to maintenance and consumables spend vs. budget.

Ensures timely and accurate reporting on project activities, delivering projects within scope, timeline, and budget.


People

Supervises team members, conducting performance management.

Identifies training needs and development opportunities to maximize potential.

Demonstrates strong leadership and fosters a culture aligned with Credo & Behavioral Standards.

Provides ongoing support and mentoring.

Manages resource planning, training, and development within the maintenance team.


Technical Operations – MAM & E2E Strategic

Participates in and/or leads engineering initiatives.

Integrates Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decisions.

Supports capacity increase projects, ensuring design for manufacture and value.

Ensures maintenance standards and uptime are optimized.

Investigates risks related to new equipment, products, or processes.

Leads improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Supports attainment of business metrics through maintenance support.

Provides timely reporting on downtime, budget, projects, and root cause analysis.

Manages preventative maintenance execution.

Maintains high standards for utilities, plant, and equipment, replacing obsolete assets as needed.

Performs other duties as required.


Quality and Compliance Responsibilities

Responds to customer complaints, technical inquiries, non-conformities, and CAPAs related to product performance.

Supports root cause analysis activities.

Ensures compliance with regulations and laws governing business and quality operations.

Ensures adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies and practices.

Communicates issues or opportunities to management.

Audits and escalates non-conformance issues for corrective actions.

Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Section 3: Experience & Education

Essential:

Degree in Engineering or Science, with 4-5 years’ experience in maintenance, operations, or engineering in a large, fast-paced company.

Experience in process engineering, project management, and asset reliability management.

Leadership skills and effective decision-making.

Ability to understand technical issues and provide practical, cost-effective solutions.

Data-driven decision-making with key performance metrics.

People management experience.

Desirable:

Experience in medical devices or regulated manufacturing industries.

Technical experience in furnace/poro-coat process, CNC machining, calibration, clean room, or packaging processes.

Financial acumen.

Experience with FDA, MDR, ISO regulations.

Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, or problem-solving techniques.
