About the role
We are looking for a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our team, covering sites across East Cornwall. The main area of responsibility will be the clearance and maintenance of watercourses and rivers across East Cornwall. This will entail managing the riverbanks for wildlife whist maintaining the flow of the river. Maintenance of river level and rain gauge sites across Cornwall and Devon. From time to time you will be required to assist in the maintenance of Cornwall Council grounds including grass cutting (continuing the implementation of Cornwall Council’s ‘Nature Recovery’ initiative), trimming hedges, weeding shrub beds, maintenance of sports pitches, council run cemeteries and closed churchyards. The successful candidates will have a wealth of experience in grounds maintenance and a proven track record of delivering excellent customer service.
The role of Grounds Maintenance Operative will include:
1. To comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and company policies, including carrying out point of work risk assessments
2. Ensure electronic paperwork is correct and submitted on time.
3. Litter picking, shrub pruning, grass and hedge cutting, weed control and removal.
4. A genuine interest in horticulture and assist in the continuing development of Cornwall Council’s wildflower project across its sites.
5. Using equipment and materials in a safe manner as instructed and in accordance with risk assessments, manufacturer’s guidance and company policy.
6. Carrying out all hazardous tasks such as weed control, in accordance with supplier guidelines ensuring relevant records are maintained to comply with health and safety and legal requirements.
7. Ensuring tools and equipment are maintained in good condition and continue to be suitable for required tasks.
8. Assist in responding positively to requests for service and breakdowns in service delivery to meet customer expectations.

About you
We are looking for you to bring:
9. Recent experience of undertaking a similar role and experience of operating grounds maintenance machinery
10. This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence Class B, Class CE is desirable.
11. Self-motivation with the ability to use own initiative.
