We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Nurse or Allied Health Professional to support Patient and Community Involvement and Engagement work for the Research and Innovation Department at UHSussex.
As a valued member of the team you will help to recruit and retain a group of motivated UHSussex Public Research Champions with the aim of raising awareness and understanding of research and innovation amongst our staff and patients. This exciting position will provide the ideal opportunity to develop experience of leading a group of Research Champions and become an expert resource for development of inclusive patient and community involvement and engagement in our research and innovation activities.
Clinical experience, leadership skills and evidence of teaching skills are essential and comprehensive support for the applicant will be provided.
The post is 0.4 WTE, weekdays only, The post holder will provide establish excellent communication with the public to promote the Research Champion role and develop and maintain relationships across a wide range of professional and non-professional boundaries within and outside the Trust to facilitate the Public Research Champion initiative.
The post holder will also be responsible for promoting research within UHSussex departments and manage the Public Research Champions service, setting the direction and maintaining the progress of the aims of the Research Champions group in line with the UHSussex Strategy. The role requires flexibility and the ability to work as a team member and under own direction., Sitting and using computer for prolonged periods of time when maintaining accurate documentation, answering data queries and protocol related training. Continuous use of visual display unit will be necessary.
Moving equipment related to clinical trials such as patient records, stationary, folders etc.
Required to take and process clinical (biological) samples, as part of clinical nursing role when necessary to maintain clinical research service delivery.
Occasional requirement to package samples that are transported in dry ice.
Frequently required to work in front of a screen - entering data, processing textual information and maintaining data logs for allocated clinical trials.
Must be able to effectively communicate with members of the general public presenting as Research Champions
Travel across UHSussex sites when necessary eg to facilitate Research Champions meetings or attend engagement events, Commitment to continuous service improvement.
Commitment to working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to integrate research into clinical practice

Elevated level of concentration required to ensure clinical trials protocols are observed and strictly adhered to.
Frequent and lengthy use of computer will be required on a daily basis.
Able to work under pressure and make decisions unsupervised, seeking assistance as appropriate
Must be able to emotionally support other staff, First Level Nurse Registration.
First degree or equivalent experience, with significant post registration experience in one or more areas of the desired portfolio., Professional practise course according to experience, and within speciality or relevant experience., Mentorship Qualification e.g. Practice Supervisor Practice Assessor Preparation Programme, Mentorship Programme, ENB 998, Practice Teacher qualification or equivalent.
