Job Overview
We are recruiting for a Nurse Team Leader who shares our vision to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. The role is for an experienced Band 5 oncology nurse on the 22 bedded inpatient ward at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, providing high quality care for male and female patients with different types of cancer receiving SACT and those requiring support with side‑effects of treatment or their cancer.
Responsibilities
* Participate in leadership of the oncology ward, delivering safe, high quality care and support for patients receiving cancer treatment.
* Co‑ordinate shifts on a regular basis, support the Ward Sister/Deputy sisters with audits and staff development while developing leadership skills within the Trust.
* Role‑model as a senior nurse, act as an excellent communicator and promote collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
* Act as a visible presence on the ward, coordinate nursing shifts, ensure adequate staffing, appropriate skill mix and conduct regular safety huddles.
* Administer medicines as prescribed, adhering to the Trust Medicines Management Policy and NMC Guidelines for Medication Administration (2002).
* With the relevant training and competency, undertake clinical skills required for patient care such as catheterisation and insertion of NG tubes.
* Identify educational needs within the ward and contribute to teaching (formal and informal) within the clinical area and to other healthcare professionals in the cancer centre.
Qualifications
* Experienced Band 5 oncology nurse.
* Opportunity to undertake the Band 6 Team Leader development programme, Fundamentals in Cancer Care Module and SACT passport, if not already completed.
* Relevant training and competency in catheterisation and NG tube insertion.
