Role Description
Role: Community Retail Manager
Function: Retail and Community Development
DBS checks: Enhanced DBS required upon appointment
Reports to: CEO
Responsible for: All staff and volunteers working in community retail projects
Hours of work: 30-37.5 hours per week, to be agreed upon appointment
At St Chad’s Community Project, we aim to support our community to thrive. In 2024, we welcomed 21,817 visits and our Family Support team assisted 1,546 families. Our community Thrift Shop offers low-cost clothing and household items, and in summer 2025, we plan to open ‘St Chad’s Market’, a community supermarket to improve local access to affordable, nutritious food.
We seek a dedicated Community Retail Manager to oversee our retail operations and develop partnerships and networks. The ideal candidate may come from a retail or catering management background or have experience in community development. They should demonstrate commitment to our mission, vision, and values, and be enthusiastic about leading a team of staff and volunteers.
Role Responsibilities

The main goal is to establish a sustainable retail service across our projects. Key tasks include:
Retail Operations
* Oversee current operations of our community Thrift Shop.
* Lead our new retail project, ‘St Chad’s Market’.
* Develop marketing strategies and manage promotions or events.
* Collect data and evaluate impact.
* Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality.
Food Safety
* Ensure health, safety, and food hygiene standards are met.
* Manage HACCP and food safety standards, including training, monitoring, and auditing.
* Establish and maintain a reliable food supply.
Staff and Volunteers
* Line manage the Thrift Shop Supervisor.
* Recruit, train, and develop staff and volunteers.
* Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Finance
* Manage project budgets effectively.
* Contribute to income generation through contracts, grants, and other sources.
* Handle cash responsibilities and maintain financial records.
Undertake any other duties as discussed with the line manager.
