Youth Support & Mental Health Worker
Location: Caerphilly
Hours: 8:30am – 3:00pm
Pay: £90 per day (pay increase from April)
Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Start Date: Immediate start
End Date: Until 17th July 2026 (end of academic year)

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Youth Support and Mental Health Worker to join a welcoming alternative provision in Caerphilly. You will provide 1:1 support to pupils with mental health needs, challenging behaviour, and additional learning needs, helping them feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
About the Provision
* A calm, nurturing and safe environment supporting pupils across the local authority
* Small class sizes (usually no more than 10 pupils) with a high staff-to-student ratio
* A supportive and experienced team who will help you flourish in your role
* Ongoing guidance, mentoring, and training provided
* Team Teach training offered during half-term breaks
About the Role
* Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs
* Support teachers and classroom staff with behaviour management and tailored support strategies
* Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, and essential life skills
* Create and maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
* Provide firm but fair guidance, maintaining clear boundaries with a caring and understanding approach
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
* Desirable experience in one or more of the following areas:
o Mental health support
o Care work or residential care
o Youth work
o Healthcare or support roles
o Sports coaching
* A genuine passion for supporting children and young people
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work well as part of a team and follow guidance
* Commitment to completing required training
* No formal qualifications required – ideal for those new to education
Requirements:
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply – we can help)
* EWC registration (guidance provided)
* Two professional references
* Ability to travel to the Caerphilly area

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
