The Regional Forensic CAMHS team champions trauma-informed interventions for young people with diverse needs, including mental health, neurodiverse, and forensic presentations. Our aim is to help teams understand risk from a psychological perspective and to support vulnerable young people in changing their lives. This work involves supporting professional networks around the young person, direct work with young people and their families or carers, and providing support to residential and secure settings.

The team benefits from a multidisciplinary approach, including nursing, social work, psychology, and psychiatry, all contributing to care and treatment plans and supporting local services across the region to manage risk.

The post holder will be responsible for the daily delivery of our Mentalization-Based Therapy research pathway. Working closely with a research assistant psychologist, they will ensure the delivery of research aligns with Good Clinical Practice standards and adheres to the research protocol. They will supervise the assistant, report to the Principal Investigator/Clinical Lead, and communicate with the national team.


Main duties of the job

1. Work as part of a team to provide a psychologically informed service across the south west for the FCAMHS service.
2. Develop and undertake specialist assessments, formulations, and interventions with this client group.
3. Advise on packages of care and develop local engagement with a large-scale RCT MBT trial.
4. Support the recruitment of participants for the RCT and deliver MBT as part of the trial therapies delivery team.
5. Monitor, document, and adhere to the research trial protocol, supporting others in doing so.
6. Supervise and oversee the assistant psychologist involved in the RCT.
7. Provide consultation and supervision to other professionals working with the FCAMHS cohort in various settings.
8. Provide specialist supervision to other FCAMHS professionals.
9. Liaise closely with psychologists and professionals in specialist services.
10. Work autonomously within professional guidelines and ensure systematic governance of psychological practice within the service.
