Offer description

Salary: NJC Grade C: £25,989 - £26,403 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Working Pattern: This is a fixed term position working 30  hours per week, 39 weeks per year until 12th February 2027 (Monday to Friday)

St. Martin's C of E Primary School are looking to appoint a fantastic teaching assistant into our Early Years team from September. The role will initially involve working closely with a class teacher and team of teaching assistants to support our children in nursery or reception so that they settle into school life, learn and thrive.

Our school vision statement of ‘Being the best we can be for ourselves, for others and for God's world’ is woven through all aspects of school life, where opportunities for children are maximised, staff wellbeing and development are prioritised and nurturing relationships provide a safe space within which to learn and grow. We want to appoint staff who share our Christian ethos, are passionate about learning and understand the importance that relationships play in creating a safe, secure and inspirational learning environment.

Experience of supporting young children and/or those with additional needs would be desirable but is not essential as training and support will be offered as part of your induction.

Our TAs are also required to take on half an hour of mealtime assistant duties each day as we believe it is good to have adults who know the children well supporting them to have safe and happy lunchtimes.

Although the post is initially only required until the end of February, there is the possibility that this may be extended.

Your key responsibilities will include:

* Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions

* Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources

* Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence

* You will also assist with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompany pupils on trips when required.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who can bring energy, compassion and commitment to the role.

Essential qualities include:

* Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age

* Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning

* Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English

* Ability to work effectively as part of a team

* Ability to relate well to both children and adults

Desirable (but not essential):

* Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

* Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum

* Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy

* NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent

Why Join Us?

You will become part of a dedicated team working to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. We offer:

* A supportive and collaborative working environment

* Opportunities for ongoing training and professional development

* The chance to make a significant impact on pupils’ learning and wellbeing

If you’re passionate about helping children succeed and want to be part of a warm, nurturing school community, we’d love to hear from you.

This role requires an enhanced DBS disclosure.

To apply for this role please submit your application online; your supporting statement should outline your suitability for the post.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 1st June 2026, interviews will be held on Friday 5th June 2026.

Visits to the school would be welcomed and can be arranged via the school office: 01404 515409.
