This is a 12 month non-tenure-accruing position that will be 100% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) available in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences, in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit.
Responsibilities
* Perform research and engineer aquaculture systems for the production of Diadema antillarum, nearshore hardbottom sponges, and stony corals. Experience and a strong record of publication in aquaculture and restoration of marine species and systems is required. Strong capacity for statistical computing in the R program and demonstrated scientific writing ability are also required.
* The faculty member will participate actively in graduate education by serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing the results with their graduate students.
* The employee will seek contract and grant funding actively to support their program.
* Supervise and mentor research technicians working on funded projects.
All faculty are expected to be supportive of and engage in all three of the IFAS land‑grant mission areas—Research, Teaching and Extension—regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.
Qualifications
* A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Biology, Aquaculture, Ecology, or a closely related discipline is required.
* Experience and a strong record of publication in aquaculture and restoration of marine species and systems is required.
* Strong capacity for statistical computing in the R program and demonstrated scientific writing ability are also required.
* Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding.
* Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.
* Candidates must also have a commitment to UF core values.
Preferred Qualifications
* At least three years of demonstrated experience in Diadema antillarum aquaculture research as well as current AAUS diving qualification and experience in coral husbandry and nearshore hardbottom sponge restoration research.
* Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.
Expected Salary: Commensurate with Education and Experience.
