Overview

You will be joining a dynamic and forward thinking team of doctors and the division of Anaesthesia at BHRUT which provides anaesthetic, critical care and acute and chronic pain services for the local population. The Trust supports elective and emergency anaesthesia for a broad range of surgical specialties, a consultant-led critical care outreach team, acute pain ward rounds, and outpatient clinics for chronic pain, anaesthetic pre-assessment and critical care follow-up. BHRUT is one of the largest Associate Teaching Hospitals, serving over 700,000 people across two main sites (Queens and King George Hospitals) with additional sites at Barking, Dagenham and Brentwood. The Trust is a major Neurosciences centre and cancer centre, undergoing ongoing development as a tertiary referral centre for North East London and Essex, including additional critical care capacity.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The Trust offers inclusive and flexible working arrangements and values diverse experiences to deliver outstanding care to our community.

Responsibilities

1. Comply with the agreed job plan, which will be reviewed annually.
2. Participate in an emergency out of hours resident on-call cover for critical care medicine.
3. Contribute to postgraduate and continuing education for medical, nursing, technical staff, GPs and other allied professions.
4. Deputise in the absence of departmental colleagues in cases of annual leave and (where practicable) short-term sickness.
5. Contribute (in co-operation with the Audit Committee) to the clinical audit process undertaken within the Trust, and where appropriate at a broader regional level.

About the Post

The Trust seeks to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Critical Care. This is a 1 year fixed term post and applicants will be expected to have suitable experience within Critical Care. The role involves contributing to the provision of a high quality, responsive critical care service to Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust that assumes responsibility for patients within the catchment area in co-operation with colleagues in anaesthetics and other clinical departments. This will involve caring for patients on ITUs and HDUs at Queen's Hospital and/or King George Hospital, reviewing patients and initiating critical care treatment in Accident & Emergency, theatre recovery and ward areas, and undertaking transfer of patients (both intra- and inter-hospital).

Working for Our Organisation

We are an organisation focused on continuous improvement, delivering care we are proud of. We operate from two main sites—King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford—with two busy emergency departments serving more than 330,000 people last year. We are progressing to transform the A&E at Queen’s and expand our services across Women’s Health, Ageing Well, and Community Diagnostic Centres, with extended operating hours and additional capacity. Our workforce of around 8,000 staff includes graduates from diverse backgrounds and over 400 apprenticeships. We are proud to be a London Living Wage employer and are progressing towards electronic patient records to benefit staff and patients.

We are committed to equal opportunities and welcome applications from all sections of the community, including job-sharing arrangements. Applicants who consider themselves to have a disability (as defined by the Equality Act 2010) will be shortlisted for interview if they meet the essential criteria. The Trust maintains strict safeguarding procedures for posts with access to vulnerable adults and children. All correspondence regarding applications will be by e-mail; please check your junk folder if needed. Referees should be from the most recent employer, with at least one being your direct line manager or supervisor, and provide business/organisation email addresses.

Further information: TrustID identification technology is used to verify essential documents (e.g., passports and driving licenses). In line with UKVI guidelines, the Trust is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship for Band 2 or Band 3 positions. We may close vacancies prior to the advertised closing date to streamline recruitment. If you do not hear from us within 3 weeks of the closing date, please assume your application was unsuccessful.
