About the Role
Howells, a national social housing contractor, seeks a Bid Manager to lead the bid process, create winning proposals, and support growth targets.
Location & Salary
Home based. Salary: £65k plus package.
Responsibilities
* Lead proposal management, including planning, managing and submitting tender questions, and ensuring high‑quality responses.
* Coordinate cross‑functional teams from BD, operations, commercial, legal, social value and HR.
* Ensure win themes are articulated and regulatory compliance is maintained.
* Lead post‑submission debriefs to gather feedback for continuous improvement.
* Prepare interview materials, coach teams, and produce presentations linked to bid responses.
* Manage knowledge: visit sites, enrich the bid library, research improvements and creative writing approaches.
Essential Qualifications
* Proven track record in leading and winning bids.
* Minimum 3 years of tier one/main contractor competitive tendering within social housing maintenance or construction.
* In‑depth knowledge of social housing sector, procurement, government policies, key stakeholders and industry trends.
* Understanding of risk management principles applied to bid submissions.
* Experience with social housing maintenance challenges: sustainability, community impact and social value.
* Strong project management skills and ability to identify challenges and propose innovative solutions.
* Negotiation skills and experience managing stakeholder relationships at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
* Degree in Business Administration, Management or related field.
* Professional certifications (APMP, APM) or equivalent.
* Microsoft Project competency.
* Adobe InDesign skill.
