About the Role We are seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Principal Workplace and Facilities Manager to lead and manage the Council’s Workplace and Facilities Management functions. This is a key strategic role responsible for ensuring our workplaces are safe, compliant, well maintained, and fully fit for purpose and supporting the delivery of high-quality services to our communities. Key Responsibilities As part of this role you will; Act as the responsible person for the effective management of Workplace and Facilities activities across the Council. Deliver an efficient, customer focused, and sustainable workplace and FM service. Support the development and delivery of key strategic initiatives including the Corporate Landlord Model, Long Term Maintenance Strategy, Asset Management Strategy, and the Accommodation Strategy. Provide strong leadership to the Workplace and FM team, embedding consistent, high quality and professional ways of working. Ensure contractors and suppliers are effectively commissioned, managed and monitored to achieve high standards and value for money. Lead on performance monitoring and data analysis to drive continuous improvement and informed decision making. Ensure all council workplaces are safe, compliant, well maintained and accessible for staff, stakeholders and customers. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, challenging and enhancing processes, policies and procedures. Monitor compliance with relevant legislation, including the Equality Act, ensuring workplaces meet the needs of a diverse workforce and visitor base. Represent and deputise for the Head of Service as required. Support organisational resilience and respond to civil emergencies as needed. The role also involves ensuring the efficient, compliant and cost-effective‑ management of the Council’s estate of more than 3,000 land and property assets, supported by streamlined Workplace and FM systems that deliver accurate reporting. It includes managing staff resources, development and performance to maintain high service standards, and overseeing the effective use of accommodation, equipment and materials to maximise value. You’ll be leading on resource planning and budget development, identifying opportunities to deliver efficiencies and achieve savings. About You We’re looking for someone who brings: Significant experience in workplace or facilities management in a complex, multisite organisation. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high performing teams. Excellent knowledge of compliance, FM industry standards, and contractor management. A strategic mindset paired with the ability to deliver practical day to day operational solutions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using data to drive improvements.
