Financial Controller | Carnforth | Paying upto £70k | 4 days office, 1 day home The Opportunity An established and growing business within the construction and joinery sector is seeking a Financial Controller to lead its finance function. This is a key role responsible for ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, and full regulatory compliance, while supporting the wider business with meaningful financial insight. Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will oversee day-to-day finance operations and play an important role in improving processes and supporting business performance. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the finance function, including oversight of the finance team Review and finalise payroll across the business Analyse monthly costs and investigate variances Prepare and manage prepayments, accruals, and monthly journals Maintain the fixed asset register and produce depreciation schedules Conduct stock analysis and produce review reports Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit and loss and balance sheets Deliver management information and reconciliations for group reporting Produce board-level financial reports Manage cash flow and prepare two-year cash flow and profit and loss forecasts Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements, including CIS and VAT returns and annual obligations Lead year-end processes, including preparation of financial statements and audit requirements Liaise with external auditors throughout the audit process Maintain and optimise Sage 200, supporting system improvements and resolving queries Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and controls Undertake ad hoc financial duties as required About You Essential: Proven experience leading a finance team or function Professionally qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent) Strong technical accounting knowledge Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills Experience using Sage 200 or similar accounting systems High level of accuracy and attention to detail Strong communication and leadership skills Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines Desirable: Experience within the construction sector or similar environment Adaptable and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced business Proactive and solutions-focused approach Salary and Benefits Salary £60,000 - £70,000 10% discretionary bonus 25 days holiday plus bank holidays Onsite parking One day per week working from home This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of a well-established finance function and play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the business.
