Overview
Forget Me Not Childrens Hospice is seeking trauma therapy professionals from a range of disciplines to match family members with the right support. An accredited qualification in trauma therapy (including compassion-focused therapy, EMDR, etc.) is preferred, with deep knowledge of trauma related to grief and loss and/or palliative care, and experience delivering counselling and psychotherapy within a structured programme. Services may be delivered at the hospice, in a local community space, or in your own designated therapy space (if available).
Location: Huddersfield area with potential to work from the hospice, community spaces, or your own space depending on availability.
Hours: ad hoc as per practitioner availability. Location: Russell House, Huddersfield or your own designated therapy space. Responsible to: Family Services Manager.
Job Description
Job responsibilities
Carry out trauma-informed assessments on individuals and families, providing an overview of emotional, social, practical, environmental needs and stressors, family dynamics, strengths and coping strategies.
Complete risk assessments around harm to self and suicide risk. Contract with clients to ensure clarity around confidentiality and boundaries. Complete formulation and support plans based on assessed need. Use counselling skills and knowledge of theories of trauma, adversity and bereavement to deliver therapeutic interventions. Provide individuals with skills and interventions to help process trauma. Empower families and individual family members to make their own choices and decisions. Communicate effectively via telephone, email and video call. Maintain clear internal communication within the multidisciplinary family support team and with care staff and income generation teams. Coordinate with social services, education, GP, children’s community nursing teams, occupational therapists, perinatal mental health teams, hospital consultants and voluntary agencies, including during transitions to other services. Keep accurate, contemporaneous records that meet legal and professional standards. Implement outcome measures (PHQ-9, SDQ, AAG, Impact of Events Scale). Manage a caseload with a structured yet flexible approach, prioritising and planning contact frequency and time management. Participate in supervision with an external professional supervisor and maintain professional registration. Work within safeguarding guidelines (LSCB) and engage in annual appraisal and ongoing professional development, including current research relevant to children’s palliative care, bereavement, perinatal mental health and trauma.

Qualifications
* Recognised professional counselling or psychotherapy qualification
* Membership of BACP/NCS or other appropriate counselling and psychotherapy body
* Desirable: EMDR training and qualification; specific grief and loss training; postgraduate qualifications in trauma, psychotherapy, counselling
Experience
* Minimum 2 years post-registration experience of working with individuals who have experienced trauma and loss
* Qualified in trauma therapy (EMDR, CBT, Compassion Focused Therapies)
* Experience supporting adults affected by pregnancy, baby and child bereavement
* Providing therapeutic support to individuals and working within a multidisciplinary team
* Assessment of psychosocial needs of individuals and families
* Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, high empathy, time and caseload management, computer literacy
* Team player, able to work with minimal supervision, flexible, friendly and enthusiastic
* Confidence to make decisions and creative thinker
* Experience and knowledge of safeguarding procedures
Desirable
* Knowledge of children’s hospice services and philosophy
* Knowledge of perinatal mental health
* Postgraduate qualifications in trauma, psychotherapy, counselling
