JOB TITLE: Teacher – Primary
REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
* Planned and delivered lessons and prepared courses and materials suitable for the needs of pupils.
* Provided teaching and assessment aligned with the Northern Ireland curriculum, supporting learners of all abilities, including those with SEND.
* Advised and guided pupils on educational and social matters and future careers, maintaining appropriate records.
* Maintained discipline and safeguarding, coordinating with parents, colleagues and external bodies.
* Participated in meetings for curriculum, administration, pastoral and examination arrangements.
* Engaged in staff development, professional review, and contributed to the development of teaching resources.
* Managed health and safety, ensuring safe learning environments at school premises and authorized activities.
* Coordinated public examinations, assessing pupils and supervising presentations.
* Supported the selection, induction and development of other teachers, coordinating work and administrative tasks.
* Observed all relevant work hours, breaks and attendance regulations as stipulated by the Education Authority.
Essential Criteria – Section 1
* Hold a teaching qualification that meets requirements for recognition to teach in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
* Qualifications obtained by the closing date for applications.
* Minimum of 2 years’ demonstrable paid teaching experience by the end of June 2026.
* Minimum of 1 year’s demonstrable paid experience teaching in a SPiM unit or specialist provision by the end of June 2026.
* Demonstrable experience of using a range of effective classroom strategies to support all pupils, including those with special educational needs.
* Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
Essential Criteria – Section 2
* Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
* Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
* Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
* Knowledge of teaching strategies to meet varying learning needs.
* Knowledge of digital classroom tools, media, tablets and mobile technologies.
* Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
* Effective teaching and classroom management skills.
* Ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
* Ability to use initiative, solve problems and be flexible.
* Ability to collaborate and promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
* Ability to work as an effective team member, motivating self and others.
* Evidence of how experience and approach reflect the School’s Values/ethos.
Desirable Criteria – Section 3
* Completed extra relevant training in an area of SEN that supports children with specific SEN.
* Experience assisting with the delivery of an After‑School Activity in a school environment.
* Experience assisting with achieving the Green Flag through ECO.
Disclosure of Criminal Background
The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines working directly with children or young people or in specified places as ‘regulated activity’. In the event of a recommendation for appointment to a post involving regulated activity, the Education Authority will undertake an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background. Applicants are expected to meet the cost of an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate.
