Acies are looking for a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer.
This is a full time/permanent position with a preference for someone in Edinburgh on a Hybrid basis.
Responsibilities
* Independently manage assigned projects, making key decisions on project scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management.
* Act as the main point of contact for key projects, attending and leading design team meetings, client meetings, and site inspections.
* Conduct site inspections and surveys independently, ensuring accurate data collection for design validation and quality assurance.
* Liaise with external clients, local authorities, and internal team members to align project deliverables with regulatory and commercial requirements.
* Produce fee proposals and tender bids for new work up to £75,000 in fee value.
* Demonstrate a clear understanding of project finances and be responsible for managing budgets for projects up to £75,000 in fee value.
* Collaborate with senior management to identify areas for process improvement and training, fostering a culture of continuous professional development within the team.
* Assist in the management of project resourcing, workload distribution, and technical checking of design work within the team.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Graduates, Engineers and Project Engineers.
* Maintain and develop client relationships.
* Partake in internal design reviews and QA checks.
* Perform detailed structural design calculations for both new-build and refurbishment projects.
* Design and assess structures using a variety of materials.
* Utilise a suite of design software tools (e.g., TEDDS, S-Frame, Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Fastrack Suite, REVIT, Robot, Infodrainage/Causeway Flow, AutoCAD LT) to develop and review designs.
* Produce reports for key project stages and calculation packages for submission to the Principal Designer or SER certifier.
* General understanding and appreciation of earthwork and ground stabilization specifications and methodologies.
* Experience of civils drainage design including SuDs would be an advantage.
Qualifications and Experience
* MEng/MSc/BEng/BSc Hons in Civil or Civil and Structural Engineering.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with membership of IStructE, ICE, or another relevant engineering institution.
* Typically, minimum of 5 years’ post-graduation experience in the civil and structural engineering sectors, with significant experience in commercial property projects.
* Strong project management skills with a track record of successful project delivery.
* Proficiency in design software relevant to the role.
* Effective communication skills, with the ability to liaise with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
* Experience and ability in undertaking technical review of both design information and written reporting.
* Proven record of managing project finances for fee values up to £25,000 on time and budget.
