Warringtonfire, part of Element has an opportunity for a Trainee Electrical Control & Instrumentation Technician to join our growing team. You will be charged with maintaining the control & instrumentation systems for our large-scale Fire Resistance test furnaces and small scale Reaction to Fire test equipment at our Warrington laboratory. You will also take responsibility for the calibration of all equipment whether this be through external providers or by performing onsite calibrations. Carry out hands‑on electrical, control and instrumentation maintenance across the Warrington lab locations from our Birchwood site to Holmsfield Road Perform fault diagnosis, repair and preventative maintenance on scientific fire‑testing equipment, including furnaces, smoke analysers and associated systems Assist in the design, development and modification of electrical and control systems to support new and ongoing engineering projects Conduct instrument calibrations in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, ensuring traceability and accurate documentation Prepare, update and produce technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new and existing systems Utilise the company’s CMMS to manage workload, record maintenance activities and maintain equipment history Interpret electrical drawings, manuals and technical documentation to support maintenance and project tasks Work collaboratively with engineers, technical, technicians & 3 rd parties to support laboratory operations and continuous improvement Maintain a proactive approach to health, safety and compliance, ensuring all work aligns with BS 7671 and internal quality procedures Reliable operation and improved uptime of laboratory electrical, control and instrumentation systems Accurate and timely completion of ISO/IEC 17025‑compliant calibrations and associated documentation Effective troubleshooting and resolution of electrical and instrumentation faults Well‑structured, clear and compliant SOPs that support consistent operation and maintenance of equipment Accurate and up‑to‑date maintenance records within the CMMS Successful contribution to engineering projects, system upgrades and equipment modifications Demonstrated adherence to safety standards and proactive identification of risks or improvement opportunities Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, particularly in fault diagnosis Ability to interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and technical manuals Practical knowledge of VFDs, three‑phase motors and AC/DC control systems Understanding of communication protocols such as RS232, RS485 and Ethernet Familiarity with programming tools or software such as Siemens TIA Portal Effective communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary environment High attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy Proactive, safety‑focused mindset with a strong sense of responsibility Organised, methodical and able to manage workload effectively through a CMMS Level 3 qualification in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (or equivalent) Time‑served apprenticeship in engineering maintenance or a related discipline BS 7671 – 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification Experience working with electrical, control or instrumentation systems in an industrial, laboratory or engineering environment Benefits of working at Element 33 days annual holiday, consisting of 25 days annual holiday and 8 days public / x4 Life Assurance / Legal & General Pension scheme with total contributions up to 12% / Flexible Working / Cycle Scheme / Free Onsite Refreshments / Recommend a Friend Bonus / Perks At Work Discount Scheme For more information on Element's BUILT division, please take a look at our e-brochure: https://indd.adobe.com/view/7032c5bd-3645-4c48-86d4-b568d53de400 LI-DG1 To apply please email derek.grist@element.com Element is one of the fastest growing testing, inspection and certification businesses in the world.
