Foundation Doctor (FY2) in Trauma and Orthopaedics

The closing date is 06 April 2026

This post will provide training in the generality of Elective Paediatric Orthopaedics and Paediatric Orthopaedic Trauma. While the bulk of the training will be in Paediatric Orthopaedics (Elective and Trauma), exposure to Paediatric Spinal Deformity and Paediatric Orthopaedic Oncology, will also be achieved.

It is envisaged that the postholder will join in as soon as possible, remaining with the department until February 2027.

The post is suitable for those wishing to pursue a career in Orthopaedics. The post will also suit those wishing to pursue a career Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine and General Practice, or any of the surgical specialties.

The successful candidate will spend their time at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital site. The post holder will participate in the surgical specialties out-of-hours on call.

Main duties of the job

It is expected that the post holder will take part in the academic activities of the unit. There will be opportunities for clinical research and audit under the supervision of the Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons and ample time for such projects. The post holder will also have the opportunity to be involved in teaching undergraduates during their Orthopaedic modules.

The Paediatric Orthopaedic Department at BCH holds a monthly Audit/MDT meeting which the post holder will be expected to attend throughout their time with us. The department also holds further Audit meetings to coincide with the Trust Audit mornings. It is expected that the postholder will be involved with, and present the results of, at least one audit project while working in the department.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* MB ChB or equivalent
* GMC registration with license to practice
* BSc, or MSc, or MD, or PhD
* ATLS


Special Knowledge/Abilities and/or experience

* Experience of working in the NHS
* Paediatric experience
