We are looking for a Senior Registered Ward Nurse to join our team based in the CQC rated Good hospital in Emersons Green, Bristol. You will be part of a close knit collaborative team who pride themselves in providing the highest standard of care to our patients and their families. Our inpatient team is comprised of experienced nurses and healthcare assistants supported by our welcoming Ward Manager. As well as undertaking basic ward duties you will oversee the new patient admissions, ensuring key documentation is completed and introducing them to the care team looking after them. All of our work is planned so you will be able to plan your week with ease knowing your work schedule won\'t change. To assist in the efficient running of the ward, you will support and assist in the delivery of professional nursing care to patients ensuring the highest possible standards of care are received by patients and their carers. Supervise all clinical care delivered through an efficient and effective service that meets the required standards of relevant regulatory bodies.
Responsibilities
* To co-ordinate the patient\'s hospital admission from pre-admission to discharge ensuring that the patient\'s needs are met, integrating high quality care in the most cost-effective setting.
* To provide support, advice and guidance to all staff delivering patient care and will work closely with the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be expected to maintain high standards of care and be accountable for auditing those standards.
* With the ward manager to foster an environment in which high quality cost effective services are delivered and where creativity, innovation and staff development all underpin the approach to managing the ward area in which each member of staff is recognised and valued.
* The post holder will be responsible for assessment, planning and implementing effective nursing care for the inpatient services. You will be an integral part of the ward team and multidisciplinary team as a whole. You will provide clinical knowledge and expertise to this group of patients and will regularly take charge of the ward nurse in charge.
Shifts
* The shifts are a mix of the following: long day 07:00 - 20:00; Early 07:00 - 15:00; Late 12:00 - 20:00; Night 19:00 - 08:00. The role has day to day clinical management, clinical teaching, and staff development responsibilities: Management and Leadership.
Additional responsibilities
* To co-ordinate the use of resources ensuring that the planned care is clinically and financially risk assessed and the department is covered with staff who have the appropriate skills and competencies
* To act as a resource for the understanding of the care pathway, to ensure completion of accurate information and assessment
* To be responsible for the keeping of accurate and confidential records, for patients and staff
* Have the ability to manage themselves, and their workload, both individually and as a team member
* Demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to delegate and assess staff performance and be able to carry out appraisals and set objectives. Acting as a role model to junior and less experienced staff. Be actively involved in induction
* To contribute to the management and effective use of personnel, surgical consumables and other resources within ward to provide an efficient surgical service to all users. To assist in the achievements of business objectives through the most efficient use of resources. Participating in new initiatives and developments in practice
Clinical role
* To develop surgical nursing expertise in all the relevant clinical areas for the ward and to act as a role model for expert clinical practice on the ward and take the lead role in at least one speciality area
* To perform required nursing care and interventions as appropriate. To be responsible and accountable for the assessment and provision of care to patients and ensure customer satisfaction is achieved
* To work with the Ward Manager/ Head of Clinical and Nursing Services to develop and implement best practice UK - US clinical protocols and case management approaches in the inpatient ward and ensure evidence-based practice is promoted and developed. To continually evaluate the methods used to implement/improve Nursing care and the effectiveness of problem-solving
Requirements / Benefits
* Good attendance record
* Have a satisfactory CRB clearance
* To be registered with the appropriate professional body
* Registered Nurse with surgical experience in a number of specialties
* Evidence of continual professional development to meet NMC requirements
* Basic / Intermediate life support skills
* ECG and Venepuncture training
* FLAP course or equivalent Teaching
* Substantial relevant experience in acute care or elective surgical nursing with recent experience in day care/ short stay and inpatient nursing
* Management experience, including understanding budgets
* Knowledge and skills of acute surgical care provision
* Up to date hands on clinical skills including phlebotomy, IV drug administration and performing ECGs
* Ability to work closely with consultant users and collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team
* Strong decision-making skills
* Ability to understand and work within set budgets
* Knowledge and experience of clinical supervision
* Computer literate
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Political and commercial awareness
* Ability to plan and prioritise own workload when under pressure
