Our client is a leading food manufacturer specialising in authentic Japanese cuisine and they are looking for a Technical Manager / QA Manager. You will be responsible for ensuring all products are manufactured to the highest quality and safety standards, in line with legal, customer, and company requirements. This role oversees the Quality Assurance/Control and Technical functions, manages audits, maintains certifications, and supports continuous improvement across production.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality & Food Safety
Ensure all products meet food safety, quality, and legal standards.
Maintain and continuously improve the companys Food Safety Management System (HACCP, SALSA.).
Lead internal and external audits, including SALSA, customer, and EHO inspections.
Manage non-conformance investigations and ensure effective corrective actions.
Conduct regular factory hygiene, GMP, and internal audits.
Oversee allergen management, traceability, recall and product specifications.
Manage supplier approval and raw material verification processes.
Manage and advise the Labelling/Stock department.
Technical & Documentation
Maintain up-to-date product specifications, labelling, and nutritional information.
Ensure compliance with UK and EU food legislation.
Lead on technical documentation for new product launches (NPD).
Liaise with customers and external laboratories on quality and safety matters.
Prepare and submit technical documentation for customer audits and tenders.
Team Management & Training
Lead, train, and develop the QC team.
Provide technical support and training to production and warehouse staff.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, food safety, and accountability.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and product quality.
Collaborate with Operations and Production teams to reduce waste, improve yields, and maintain product consistency.
Experience & Qualifications:
Degree or equivalent in Food Science, Microbiology, or related discipline (preferred).
Minimum 5 years + experience in a Technical or QA Management role within food manufacturing.
Experience working with ready-to-eat or high-care foods is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of food safety management systems, SALSA, and BRCGS (preferred) standards.
Proven success in managing BRCGS/SALSA audits and customer visits.
HACCP Level 3 (minimum)
Level 4 preferred.
Food Safety and Hygiene qualification (Level 3 or above).
Excellent understanding of UK food legislation and retailer codes of practice.
Analytical and problem-solving mindset.
People Management.
Confident communicator with the ability to engage with all departments and external stakeholders.
