Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator (BREEAM)
Location: Cardiff (with site travel). Salary: £45,000-£50,000 + package (DOE). Full-time | Permanent.
Overview
An established and highly regarded UK construction company is seeking an experienced Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator (BREEAM-focused) to support the delivery of environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and ESG performance across a diverse portfolio of construction projects. This Cardiff-based role offers the opportunity to act as the central point of coordination for BREEAM delivery, working across projects from design stage through to post-construction, while also supporting wider environmental management and sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
BREEAM Coordination & Delivery
* Lead and coordinate BREEAM delivery across multiple construction projects
* Manage, review, and submit BREEAM evidence to appointed Assessors
* Work closely with design teams, consultants, and project stakeholders to achieve targeted ratings
* Track BREEAM credits, risks, and responsibilities throughout project lifecycles
* Maintain structured, auditable records and evidence files
* Conduct site inspections to ensure BREEAM compliance and environmental best practice
Construction Environmental Management
* Support delivery of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs)
* Ensure compliance with planning conditions, environmental permits, and legislation
* Carry out site audits and environmental inspections
* Liaise with regulatory bodies and stakeholders as required
* Support ongoing development and compliance of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
Sustainability & ESG
* Contribute to the company's Environmental & Sustainability Strategy
* Support initiatives around
o Carbon reduction and net zero targets
o Waste minimisation and resource efficiency
o Sustainable materials and procurement
* Assist with ESG data collection, monitoring, and reporting
* Track and report on environmental KPIs to senior leadership
Training & Continuous Improvement
* Provide guidance to project teams on BREEAM, sustainability, and environmental compliance
* Support environmental training and awareness initiatives
* Stay up to date with BREEAM standards, environmental legislation, and industry best practice
Requirements
Essential
* Proven experience delivering BREEAM projects from Design Stage through to Post Construction
* Background within Main Contractor, Subcontractor, or Construction Consultancy
* Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or similar (or 3+ years relevant experience)
* Strong understanding of construction environmental processes and site-based delivery
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to interpret technical documentation and drawings
* Strong communication skills with the ability to engage multiple stakeholders
Desirable (Training Supported)
* IEMA membership (or working towards)
* BREEAM AP accreditation (Site and/or Design)
* Experience delivering BREEAM Very Good / Excellent ratings
