Procurement People are currently partnered with the UK’s largest water-only utility provider to recruit an Assistant Commercial Manager to provide critical assurance across Capex, Opex, and Indirect spend categories.
The organization is currently navigating a significant period of transformation and infrastructure investment. As such, they are expanding their 30+ strong Procurement & Commercial function to enhance value-driven delivery, sustainability, and rigorous risk management. This role is central to ensuring that multi-million pound programmes are executed with commercial precision and compliance.
The Assistant Commercial Manager will act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, managing costs and ensuring supplier contracts remain compliant from execution through to completion. This role requires a commercially astute professional with a solid grasp of NEC4 frameworks and a proactive approach to contract administration.
Key Responsibilities:
* Delivering end-to-end commercial support and robust governance across diverse spend areas
* Administering NEC4 contracts, including the management of compensation events and early warning notices (EWNs)
* Leveraging data and analytics to improve spend visibility, forecasting, and reporting
* Driving continuous improvement initiatives to simplify processes and boost commercial outcomes
* Building credible relationships with key suppliers to ensure long-term resilience and performance
Key Experiences:
* 2–3 years of experience in commercial or contract management roles
* Practical, hands-on knowledge of NEC4 contract mechanisms
* Proven track record in managing Capex, Opex, or Corporate (Indirect) expenditure
* Experience within utilities, infrastructure, or similar regulated environments (preferred)
* Strong negotiation skills and a "digital-first" mindset regarding commercial tools and dashboards
