Overview

The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) will transform the future of rehabilitation for people who have experienced injury or illness. Opening in November 2025, the NRC is a new, purpose-built 70-bed facility on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough, co-located with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre. It will share world-class rehabilitation facilities, with academic partnerships embedding research, innovation, and training in rehabilitation into clinical practice. We are looking for an ambitious and dedicated physiotherapist with significant experience in neurological rehab to help shape the service and deliver the future of rehabilitation. The role offers a unique, brand-new rehabilitation environment and opportunities for CPD and development.

Main duties

The post holder will provide a specialist service in complex rehabilitation assessment, advice and treatment for patients, including neuro and complex musculoskeletal trauma injuries in an in-patient environment. You will be supported by a team of Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistant Practitioners with full training and support to develop your clinical, leadership, teaching and service development skills. You will demonstrate effective communication, prioritisation and organisational skills within a cohesive multidisciplinary team, while managing a complex clinical caseload from assessment to discharge or transfer of care. Regular supervision and appraisal will be provided and you will be involved in service development, audit, research and the implementation of evidence-based practice. Job Description


Job responsibilities

* Plan, deliver and progress treatment interventions using clinical reasoning and decision-making skills to work towards and achieve identified patient goals.
* Work with, and delegate to, Rehabilitation Assistant Practitioners to optimise patient rehabilitation.
* Facilitate annual appraisal and personal development planning for relevant members of the Physiotherapy Team.
* Participate in the education of Physiotherapy and multidisciplinary staff.
* Align job responsibilities with the requirements of the career framework and four pillars of practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* BSc honours or equivalent in Physiotherapy.
* Full Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registration
* Evidence of maintaining professional competence through C.P.D.

Desirable

* Member of CIG
* First line management course
* Clinical Educators Course
* Evidence of post-graduate training in specialty

Physical skills

Essential

* Evidence of ability to treat complex rehabilitation patients.
* Basic keyboard and IT skills.
* Able to handle and move complex patients safely and promote rehabilitation.
* Able to use and/or manoeuvre a range of medical devices including handling/assistive and anthropometric equipment where applicable.

Desirable

* Ability to adapt to changing priorities

Experience

Essential

* Broad based Band 5 rotational experience
* Knowledge and experience in complex rehabilitation in an in-patient area
* Experience in evaluation of practice
* Experience in delegating to and supervising other team members
* Ability to contribute to clinical education about theory and practice to individuals, team and MDT (including students)
* Awareness of current best practice within a clinical specialty
* Awareness of national and local standards and national guidelines
* IT and computer skills and ability to learn specific software

Desirable

* Previous Band 6 experience
* Neuro and/or Trauma experience
* Experience in evidence-based audit of practice
* Experience in training/supervising students
* Experience in treating respiratory patients after serious injury or illness

Other requirements

* Able to travel to the NRC site
* Willing to undergo additional security checks to use patient facilities at the DMRC

* Maintain competence in respiratory care where appropriate
