Job Purpose
To make a leading contribution to the Centre for Regulation of the Creative Economy’s (CREATe) AHRC Infrastructure Award. Working with Professor Timothy Barker and Professor Philip Schlesinger, the position is designed to develop new work on the critical analysis of emerging technologies in society and culture, including issues relating to cultural preservation and cultural memory, and to relate this to regulatory issues in the creative industries. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage this challenging project as opportunities allow.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Take a leading role in the planning and conduct of assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables and research strategy.
* Document research output, including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
* Establish and maintain your research profile and reputation and that of The University of Glasgow/ School/ Research Group, including a track record of independent and joint publications in high‑profile refereed journals, enhancing research impact and gathering indicators of esteem.
* Survey the research literature, understand the research challenges associated with the project & subject area, and develop/implement a suitable research strategy.
* Present work at international and national conferences, internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to enhance our research profile.
* Identify potential funding sources, assist in developing proposals to secure internal and external funding to support future research.
* Develop and maintain collaborations with colleagues across the research group/School/College/University and wider community (e.g., Academic and Industrial Partners).
* Participate in team/group meetings, seminars, workshops and School research group activities to enhance the wider knowledge and culture of the School/College.
* Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including budgets and expenditure.
* Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
* Engage in personal, professional and career development, enhancing specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School/Director of Research Institute.
* Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.
Knowledge / Qualifications
Essential
* PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field (Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 12).
* Comprehensive and up‑to‑date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the wider subject area or specialism.
* Knowledge of project‑specific technical models, equipment or techniques.
Skills
* Depth of relevant research experience, normally including sufficient post‑doctoral experience in a related field, appropriate to an early career researcher.
Experience
* Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.
* Track record of presentation and publication of research results in quality journals and conferences.
* Experience of making a leading contribution in academic activities.
* Ability to demonstrate a degree of independence in identifying project objectives, design, analysis of experiments and drafting of papers.
* Experience in undertaking independent research.
* Commitment to open research, including open data, open code, open educational resources and practices that support replication.
* Proven commitment to supporting the career development of colleagues and other forms of collegiality appropriate to the career stage.
Desirable
* Experience with interdisciplinary research.
* Experience working collaboratively on research.
Terms and Conditions
* Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 – £46,049 per annum.
* This post is full‑time (35 hours per week) and is funded for up to 18 months from the start date (anticipated in early 2026).
* The University of Glasgow ensures all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK. Skilled Worker visa sponsorship may be available under the Skilled Worker visa route.
