Description
Position Summary
This person is expected to provide medical nursing services to all Guests and Crewmembers who need it. The Nurse shall assist the Staff Captain, Senior Doctor, Doctor and Chief Nurse in all shipboard health-related matters including outbreak prevention, and illness reporting as required by international, national and Company policies. To consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of products and services, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Upon Boarding Nurses must bring the following documents or their photocopies with them when they arrive to the ship: Nursing School Diploma, ACLS, BLS, and professional license certificates that are valid for the entire lengths of their contract. It is the responsibility of the Nurse to take the courses and tests that are necessary to keep these licenses valid along with any necessary post graduate credits.
Qualifications
* Current and in good standing Registered Nurse licensing.
* Minimum of three (3) years recent experience in Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Critical Care Unit, or Trauma Unit.
* Intermediate to Advanced verbal and written level of English is required.
* Must provide a chronology of all medical activities since graduation from nursing school.
* Education: Diploma/degree from an accredited nursing school or university.
* Valid nursing license from country or State/Province of origin is required.
* Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support with renewal every two years from a recognized educational institution is required.
Key Responsibilities
* Understand the Safety and Quality Management System (SQM) and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for the position.
* Provide administrative assistance to the Doctor and Senior Doctor including completion of medical forms/reports.
* Ensure confidentiality of medical information.
* Provide First-Aid instruction for crew members as directed by the Doctor and Staff Captain; oversee the operation, good order and cleanliness of the Medical Center and Secondary Medical Space.
* Assist the Doctor in carrying out professional responsibilities and duties.
* Provide nursing care for minor and major emergency situations for passengers and crew.
* Perform triage of every patient and immediately inform the Doctor if a life-threatening condition or abnormal vital signs are suspected.
* Handle administrative duties related to care of guests and crew and management of the Medical Facility and pharmacy.
* Serve on a medical on-call roster and assist the Doctor on duty; respond to emergencies outside office hours with in-person visits and proper documentation.
* Participate in lifeboat and emergency drills unless excused; assist in maintaining inventory of pharmaceutical and medical supplies.
* Report substantial missing items or supplies to Risk Management and Medical Operations.
* Follow policy for inspection of diagnostic and life support equipment; dispose of expired medications per environmental policies or vendor return if applicable.
* Test water samples for the medical facility and maintain a test log; report findings to the Doctor and Staff Captain.
* Handle routine telephone inquiries and manage appointments for shore-side referrals via the Crew Medical Department.
* Maintain current medical records for all crew members and schedule regular shipboard medical examinations for crew enrolled in the wellness program.
* Support the Doctor in seeing patients (guests and crew) as needed, conduct rotational water testing, and perform equipment checks and cleaning.
* Complete accident reports; maintain crewmember physical examinations; maintain Acute Gastroenteritis log for port authorities; execute emergency procedures as required.
* Train and lead stretcher teams in drills and provide first-aid training for crewmembers; sterilize instruments and provide first aid supplies.
* Ensure confidentiality of medical information; complete and distribute all forms for the medical department; be available to assist the Doctor or Senior Doctor with medical cases at all times.
* Perform other related duties as assigned; advise the Doctor when patient wait times are increasing; coordinate with additional Doctors to reduce wait times and improve patient satisfaction.
* Maintain all first response bags and secondary medical space bags; cooperate with infection control and public health matters.

* The Nurse must be available at all times to assist the Doctor or Senior Doctor with medical cases.
* The on-duty Nurse will carry a two-way communication device and respond to emergencies; adaptable to a multi-cultural environment and schedule changes.

Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to stand, walk long distances, use hands to touch or handle objects, reach with arms, and communicate effectively. Positions may require bending, climbing, stairs, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Vision capabilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills, and work in varying temperatures. Must pass basic safety course. Duties may change based on business or maritime law.
