Mechanical Shift Engineer
Location - Shoreditch
Purpose:
Provision of all-round Mechanical Engineer, maintaining all the R&D building’s and infrastructure at a prestigious client site in Reading. Must have a detailed understanding & knowledge of all current Building Service Systems and contingency procedures, which comply with Health & Safety & Codes of Practice.
It is the Mechanical Engineers role to support the shift lead, Assistant Engineering manager by being the dedicated mechanical engineer for the Building and an integral member of the team delivering engineering excellence across the full spectrum of services, as well as assisting the wider team and client with tasks outside of the Mechanical expertise but within capabilities when required.
The job is 48 hours per week, site is manned from 24/7 which is split into 2 days, 2 nights / 4 off shift days. There will also be a need for out of hours works to complete statutory maintenance tasks and to provide permitting and escorting cover for the client’s service providers. The Engineer will also need to be on the for out of hours attendance in the event of emergency.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operate all systems within the buildings in a competent, effective, and efficient manner.
2. Issue relevant site Permits as part of the Safe System of Work.
3. Completion of PPM and Reactive Tasks and update the Corrigo work orders CAFM.
4. Ensure that daily checks are completed and repair, report any defects found via the FM helpdesk.
5. Identification of materials required to be ordered & installed in a timely manner.
6. Comply with both statutory and company health, safety and environmental regulations and policies.
7. Timely implementation and recording of statutory inspections including accurate recording within their specified logbooks.
8. Ensure that Specialist Service Provider worksheets are reviewed & signed off, the quality of work is inspected, and recommendations are escalated to the Supervisor.
9. The Site team will ensure that Plant areas, workshops, stores, changing/rest areas etc. are kept to the highest level of housekeeping
The Engineer will be expected to work, and trouble shoot all building systems but not be limited to the following:
10. Building Management Systems & Electrical Monitoring.
11. HVAC Systems, Including Humidifiers.
12. Air Handling, Air Conditioning & Chillers.
13. Sound knowledge of VAV & FCU Systems.
14. Domestic Water Services & Plumbing.
15. Pumps, Motors & Variable Speed Drive.
16. Gas Boilers.
17. Hot Water Calorifiers.
Qualifications:
· C&G or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
· NVQ Level 2 Equivalent in Plumbing & Heating Systems.
· Pressure Systems Certification of Competencies.
· Legionella Awareness – L8 ACOP.
· FGAS or Gas Safe Trained.
· Be conversant with current Health and Safety legislation with relevance to safe working practices.
· Sound level of administration/organisational skills & computer skills.
