To provide guidance on the interpretation and implementation of regulatory compliance requirements, and standardising competency profiles, to facilitate the appropriate training and assessment of competent persons. This position will be the Wood Focal Point for the HSE Executive, Independent Competent Entity (ICE), Client Companies, Contractors, and Subcontractors. Coordinating and carrying out safe and efficient logistics and support services in compliance with relevant legislation. Developing Discipline Strategy Driving technical assurance Supporting Engineering & Design Director, Area Heads of Engineering and Engineering Managers Functionally support the discipline team across EMEA Executing assigned business objectives Actively setting expectations and lead in Discipline Competence Key Responsibilities: Technical Authority & Governance Act as the designated Technical Authority for lifting operations and mechanical handling. Establish, maintain and continuously improve corporate lifting standards, procedures and engineering practices. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and recognised standards such as: LOLER PUWER BS 7121 Code of practice for safe use of cranes BS EN 13852-1:2025 Offshore cranes - General-purpose offshore cranes HSG221 Technical Guidance Safe Use of Lifting Equipment Offshore ISO lifting standards. Engineering & Technical Assurance Review and approve complex or critical lift plans. Provide engineering support for crane selection, rigging configuration, lifting calculations and load assessments. Provide technical review and assurance of lifting studies and method statements. Support engineering design reviews for lifting points, padeyes and lifting arrangements. Operational Support Provide technical guidance to project and operations teams for lifting activities during: Engineering Construction Commissioning Operations. Support offshore and onshore assets with complex lifting challenges. Interface with contractors, crane suppliers, and equipment vendors. Ensure comprehensive records and logs are maintained and effective handovers are carried out at shift and crew change. Ensure that line manager, construction focal point and planner, are informed of any delays to preparatory work that would impact or significantly delay the schedule. Equipment Integrity & Assurance Define and oversee inspection, maintenance and certification strategies for lifting equipment including cranes, hoists and rigging equipment. Ensure lifting equipment complies with regulatory and certification requirements. Provide technical oversight of lifting equipment management systems. Health, Safety & Risk Management Actively promote the Wood Health and Safety Executive (HSE) principles, HSE mind-set and just care through personal commitment to Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E). Promote a strong safety culture for lifting operations. Participate in risk assessments, HAZID and incident investigations related to lifting operations. Identify hazards and ensure mitigation measures are implemented before lifting operations commence. Competency & Training Determine suitable levels of Supervision for complex and complicated lifts in conjunction with Site Management and Wood Document CON-PRO-110108 Develop and maintain competency requirements for lifting personnel including: Appointed Persons Lift Supervisors Crane Operators Riggers. Banksman Slingers / Signallers Deck Crew Members Provide mentoring and technical coaching to lifting personnel. Support the development of lifting training and competency programs. Assurance & Audit Conduct lifting assurance audits across projects and operational assets. Review contractor lifting procedures and competency systems. Provide recommendations for continuous improvement of lifting practices. Qualifications Qualifications A61 – Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) under the Construction Plant Competence Scheme demonstrating competence in planning and managing lifting operations in accordance with BS 7121. TAP01 – Appointed Person / Lift Planning Training, supporting competency in lift planning, risk assessment and safe execution of lifting operations. Lifting Equipment Inspection Certification, demonstrating competence in inspection, examination and certification of lifting appliances and accessories in accordance with relevant statutory regulations What makes you remarkable? Offshore Lifting and Rigging Competence Certification aligned with recognised industry standards such as those issued by OPITO. Extensive experience in lifting operations within the oil & gas, energy or heavy construction industries. Extensive experience in: Offshore and onshore crane operations Rigging and lifting engineering Heavy and complex lifting operations Lifting equipment inspection and certification. Experience acting in a technical authority, lifting SME or appointed person role. Experience supporting large EPC projects and operational assets. Skills Advanced technical knowledge of lifting engineering and crane operations. Ability to review and interpret lifting calculations, rigging configurations and crane capacity charts. Strong understanding of lifting equipment integrity management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to influence technical decisions and provide authoritative advice. Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
