Overview
This role entails providing repair, maintenance and service to the Ministry of Justice fleet. Best practice must be employed in the servicing and maintenance, ensuring that the fleet is legally compliant before being issued to users, when returned to the facility, and after any repair or conversion activity.
Contract Hours
* Monday to Thursday: 08:00 – 16:00
* Friday: 08:00 – 15:30
On occasion, the post may require weekend work or overtime to meet workload demands.
Responsibilities
* Provide vehicle service including replacement of failed components.
* Carry out service/maintenance/defect work on all demounts throughout the calendar year.
* Assist engineers in Workshop 1 and 2 when required.
* Check in new vehicles delivered and prepare them for issue.
* Organise daily vehicle and parts collections.
* Ensure vehicles sold at auction are road‑worthy.
* Prepare vehicle record books for all new allocations.
* Familiarise with new vehicle deliveries for a professional handover.
* Wash vehicles as required.
* Clean machinery in both workshops and the garage.
* Engage fully with Health, Safety and Training managers, workshop management and transport unit managers regarding policy, risk assessment, safe systems of work and training.
* Build and maintain relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders, promoting a culture of excellent customer service.
Health, Safety and Welfare
* Report hazards and support the workshop manager in creating a safe working environment by adhering to Health and Safety legislation, ensuring SSOW and RA are followed, and reporting incidents.
Working Conditions – Hybrid Working
The MoJ offers hybrid working arrangements where business need allows. The role can be worked in the UK only, with a minimum of 60% of time spent in an office, subject to local estate capacity.

* Ability to work effectively under limited supervision, holding valid forklift and scissor lift licences.
About the Department
The National Distribution Centre (NDC) based in Branston, Staffordshire, manages collection, storage and delivery of goods for the Ministry of Justice. Fleet Engineering Services (FES) operates in Building 50, Branston, providing first‑line servicing, second‑line repairs, bodywork and vehicle modifications for the NDC fleet and tactical units.
