Job Purpose
This position is responsible for supporting the development and scale-up of innovative product and process solutions by operating and enhancing pilot plant facilities within the AMC. The role requires a hands-on approach to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality batch manufacturing, while actively promoting continuous improvement and technical excellence in digital tools. Key responsibilities include overseeing plant custodianship, maintaining cleanliness, preparedness, and compliance, and consistently producing robust and repeatable batches in the AMC pilot plant.
The role requires rigorous execution of Unilever project management principles, including embedding sound risk management in all that you do. You will also be required to build strong working relationships within the global processing, the wider R&D community, and the Supply Chain.
Responsibilities
* Development, design and evaluate experiments for validation and report as well as scale up and adapt bench-scale processes to pilot and manufacturing scale.
* Manufacture of robust, repeatable batches in the AMC pilot plant and timely and thorough documentation using digital tools and technical learnings. Drive the pilot plant continuous improvement program with focus and discipline.
* Take ownership of plant custodianship, ensuring cleanliness, readiness, and compliance. Care about the long-term success of the AMC and its role in Unilever innovation.
* Apply root cause analysis and continuous improvement tools to resolve issues. Understand risks and manage & mitigate those as appropriate
* Using digital tool for data analysis
* Manage AMC safety Audits for Eu RnD
* Work closely with other functions, such as supply chain, procurement to create, develop and deliver new products and innovations
* Work and communicate effectively with different departments and functions to deliver against the project network timings and identify and manage risks.
* Write process flow diagram and implement processes at Unilever and third party manufacturing facilities. Design and execute trial proposals for manufacturing trials.
* Provide leadership for technical aspects of project development (TPL), including project management activities, holding others accountable, ensure project delivery on agreed technical targets and support decision making process for product development related matters
Qualifications
* Degree qualified or equivalent, preferably in Chemical engineering, Process Engineering or similar.
* Hands-on experience in pilot/manufacturing environments is advantageous.
* Comfortable with digital tools/models for predictive scale-up and process optimisation.
* Skilled and comfortable working in a digital environment
* A creative, logical and analytical mind to generate innovative design solutions to technical design problems and understand the risks and solving problems.
* Ability to respond quickly to change in priorities
* You will need to be enthusiastic and self-motivated with good verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate complex engineering and design principles to people at all levels of the business, across different functions.
* Willing to work Pilot plant operations where there will be an element of manual handling within the role.
