Plumpton College is seeking an experienced, practical and highly organised Maintenance Supervisor to provide hands‑on leadership across our in‑house maintenance function and support the ongoing care, safety and development of our unique estate.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled maintenance professional with leadership experience to take ownership of day‑to‑day maintenance delivery, support minor works projects and ensure our facilities remain safe, efficient and professionally presented for students, staff and visitors.
About The Role
As Maintenance Supervisor, you will report to the Director of Estates and play a key role in coordinating and assuring the quality of both reactive and planned maintenance activity across the College.
This is a working leadership role, combining technical expertise with people coordination, contractor liaison and project delivery. You will lead by example, providing guidance to maintenance operatives while remaining hands‑on to support service delivery.
You Will
* Lead and coordinate daily in‑house maintenance activity, allocating work by skill, risk and priority
* Undertake minor maintenance tasks to support service delivery (e.g. doors, locks, signage, blinds and furniture)
* Ensure safe systems of work, risk controls and permits are followed
* Act as Fire Warden and support fire safety testing and inspections
* Carry out regular site inspections, addressing hazards and escalating issues as needed
* Manage materials ordering and workshop stock, ensuring value for money and COSHH compliance
* Triage and manage maintenance tickets, driving timely completion and accurate records
* Liaise with contractors to ensure quality, safety and completion standards
* Deliver minor works projects up to £30k, from planning through to handover
* Support estate operations including office moves, lighting, drainage, security and College events
About You
We are looking for an approachable and technically skilled individual who can confidently supervise maintenance activity while remaining practical and customer focused.
Essential
* Strong multi‑trade knowledge across general building maintenance
* Experience leading or supervising maintenance delivery within an estates or facilities environment
* Practical workmanship skills including installation fixings, basic carpentry and furniture/fittings assembly
* Sound understanding of Health & Safety requirements and safe systems of work
* Good IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, Office 365, Teams)
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive vans/minibuses
* Ability to work independently, use initiative and support others
* Excellent attention to detail and pride in high standards of workmanship
* Friendly, professional and committed to excellent customer service
Desirable
* Recognised trade qualification (City & Guilds / NVQ or equivalent)
* Experience delivering minor works projects from scope to handover
* Familiarity with planned maintenance programmes and contractor management
* Experience using electronic maintenance or building management systems
* Building surveying qualifications
