Working Hours: 35 hours p/w, 4 on 4 off Nights
About the Role
We’re looking for a hands‑on, reliable, and safety‑focused Service Assistant to join our Light Maintenance team at Scarborough Depot. During this role you will be helping complete the overnight servicing which will include Train Presentation and Fuel Point operations.
You’ll play a key part in ensuring our customer fleet is serviced, safe, and ready for service every day.
What You’ll Be Doing
Operating the fuel point and CET plant safely and efficiently.
Servicing trains overnight, including:
1. Fuelling traction units
2. Filling water tanks (toilet and wholesome water)
3. Replenishing oils, coolants, sanding systems, and screenwash
4. Supporting other on‑train system top‑ups
5. Ensuring efficient flow of vehicles through the depot.
6. Carrying out basic maintenance activities to documented instructions (VMI).
7. Completing all required paperwork accurately.
8. Supporting Technical teams.
9. Maintaining housekeeping standards across the fuel point and depot.
10. Always working safely and following company procedures and PPE requirements.

Desirable
17. NVQ Level 2 in Engineering or equivalent (BTEC / City & Guilds)
18. Experience in mechanical, engineering, or depot environments
19. Knowledge of rail vehicle maintenance or depot operations
20. Understanding of production efficiency techniques

You’ll work through a staged training plan covering:
28. Safety training (manual handling, COSHH, fire safety, working at height, PTS, depot safety)
29. Spill response
30. Technical training modules
31. Driver assessments (where applicable)
