We Build Recruitment are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Planner on behalf of our client to support the successful delivery of civil engineering projects by developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, commercial teams, and site personnel to ensure all planning activities are aligned with project objectives, contractual requirements, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Scheduling
* Develop, update, and maintain detailed project programmes using industry-standard planning software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, ASTA Powerproject).
* Produce baseline schedules, logic diagrams, work breakdown structures (WBS), and progress measurement systems.
* Ensure programmes fully reflect scope, methodology, sequencing, resources, and project constraints.
Monitoring & Reporting
* Track project progress through regular updates, analysis, and reporting.
* Identify deviations from the baseline and provide mitigation strategies.
* Prepare planning reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for internal and external stakeholders.
* Support monthly reporting cycles, including earned value analysis (EVA) and forecasting.
Collaboration & Communication
* Work closely with project teams to understand construction methods, constraints, and site activities.
* Participate in progress meetings, design reviews, and risk workshops.
* Communicate programme requirements and updates clearly to project teams, subcontractors, and clients.
* Contribute to tender planning activities, including developing bid programmes and method statements.
Risk & Change Management
* Assess programme risks, impacts, and opportunities.
* Maintain change logs and support the assessment of delays, variations, and claims.
* Assist in preparing delay analysis using recognised industry techniques (e.g., time-impact analysis, as-planned vs as-built).
Required Skills & Experience:
Essential
* Proven experience as a Planner on civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
* Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, methodologies, and engineering principles.
* Proficiency in planning software (Primavera P6 preferred).
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
* Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable
* Experience with NEC or JCT contracts.
* Understanding of earned value management (EVM).
* Previous involvement in tender planning and bid preparation.
* Membership of a relevant institute (e.g., APM, ICE, CIOB) or working towards it.
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
