We are hiring three Band 6 Specialist Technicians for the Clinical Trials Pharmacy team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. These posts ensure patient safety, data integrity and smooth trial operations across our expanding portfolio.

Required: experienced pharmacy technicians with leadership skills; optional but advantageous: experience in clinical trials (training provided).


Responsibilities

* Lead and inspire: manage either dispensaries (LGI or St. James) or the admin and finance team, providing line management and support across three sites.
* Drive patient safety: process trial amendments, update procedures to reflect protocol changes.
* Keep trials running smoothly: allocate work, oversee pharmacy set‑up, manage ongoing trial operations.
* Champion compliance: collect and report quality and performance data, ensuring trials meet highest standards.
* Collaborate widely: liaise with external sponsors, research nurses, assistants, aseptic pharmacy and Research & Innovation team.
* Support dispensary services: contribute to accuracy checking of IMPs in regular service slots.
* People manager: provide HR support, nurture team, ensure everyone feels valued.


Primary Duties (Reinforcement)

* Work independently under SOPs, GMP, COSHH.
* Deliver high‑quality technical service to wards, departments and outpatient areas.
* Maintain statutory compliance, pharma legislation, and Health and Safety at Work Act.
* Lead recruitment, selection, onboarding of technical/support staff.
* Provide line management, appraisal and support fostering inclusive culture.
* Identify training needs, develop plans and act as key trainer.
* Contribute to development, writing, implementation, monitoring of SOPs.
* Ensure departmental work meets timelines, high quality and accuracy.
* Manage resources efficiently.
* Lead quality monitoring activities, error reporting, environmental controls, turnaround times.
* Produce monthly workload and performance statistics.
* Support service development, innovation, process improvement, change implementation.
* Forge national and regional links with other technicians to share best practice.
* Develop efficient communication channels with pharmacy.
* Coordinate cover for annual leave and lieu time.


Qualifications

* Essential: BTEC in pharmaceutical science or NVQ level 3 in pharmacy services; registrant or eligible to become a tech registrant of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Desirable: GCP certification; supervisory or management qualification.


Skills & Behaviours

* Essential: cope with conflict & difficult situations, work accurately under pressure, prioritisation skills.
* Desirable: good problem‑solving skills.


Experience

* Essential: experience training others, recruitment & selection, extensive post‑qualification hospital or industry experience at technical level, management/supervisory experience of technical staff.
* Desirable: managing change, developing/implementing procedures, performance review of staff.
