We’re working with a well-established organisation to appoint an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and develop a high-performing payroll function. This is a key leadership role, offering the opportunity to take ownership of payroll operations, drive improvements, and play a strategic part in the wider business.
The Opportunity
As Payroll Manager, you will take full responsibility for the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the function. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across HR and finance, while leading and developing a dedicated payroll team.
This role would suit someone who enjoys combining hands‑on technical expertise with leadership and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, mentor, and develop the payroll team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative environment
* Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll, including salaries, bonuses, benefits, and deductions
* Ensure full compliance with UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance, and pension requirements
* Develop and maintain robust payroll processes, controls, and policies
* Manage relationships with external providers, auditors, and regulatory bodies
* Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy
* Act as the go-to expert for complex payroll queries and escalations
* Produce and present payroll reports and insights to senior leadership
About You
* Proven experience in payroll leadership or management roles
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements
* Experience managing end-to-end payroll processes in a complex environment
* Comfortable working with payroll systems (ideally Sage or similar)
* Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance
* Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels
* A proactive mindset with a passion for improving processes and driving change
* Professional qualification such as CIPP (or equivalent)
