Job Description: Early Years Apprentice
Location: Nature's Little Learners, Hornbeam Park Reports to: Room Leader / Nursery Manager Contract Type: Full-time
Role Purpose
The Early Years Apprentice will work alongside qualified practitioners to support the daily care and development of children across the nursery. This role provides practical, hands-on experience in an early years setting while completing an apprenticeship qualification, including coursework and study components. The apprentice will assist in implementing activities, routines, and learning opportunities under the guidance of senior staff, gradually developing the skills required to work independently with children while completing their theoretical learning.
Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Safeguarding
* Complete all mandatory safeguarding and child protection training as directed by management.
* Be vigilant in protecting children from harm or abuse and report any concerns promptly in line with nursery procedures.
* Follow all nursery security and gate entry procedures.
* Assist senior staff in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all children.
2. Children
* Support the care of children, including feeding, nappy changes, and personal hygiene.
* Assist in planning and delivering age-appropriate, curiosity-inspired activities across all areas of the EYFS.
* Observe and record children's development and progress under the guidance of qualified staff.
* Foster warm, respectful, and positive relationships with children through quality interactions
* Promote children's independence, self-care, and emotional well-being.
* Help maintain a stimulating, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
3. Apprenticeship & Coursework
* Complete apprenticeship coursework and study alongside practical nursery experience.
* Apply learning from coursework to day-to-day practice under the guidance of senior staff.
* Attend training, workshops, and study sessions as required to achieve the apprenticeship qualification.
* Maintain records of learning and progress, completing assignments and assessments on time.
4. Parents and Carers
* Build positive relationships with parents and carers through effective handovers and communication.
* Support the induction and transition of new children into the nursery.
* Provide updates to parents under the guidance of senior staff and respond to enquiries where appropriate.
5. Teamwork
* Work collaboratively with the nursery team to support smooth routines and high-quality care.
* Follow the direction of Room Leaders and senior staff at all times.
* Support colleagues across the nursery when needed and contribute to a positive, collaborative environment.
* Share learning experiences and contribute to reflective practice as part of apprenticeship development.
6. Positive Relationships
* Act as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, patience, and professionalism.
* Promote the ethos of Nature's Little Learners in all interactions with children, families, and colleagues.
* Develop strong working relationships with all team members and contribute to a supportive nursery culture.
7. Policies and Procedures
* Follow all nursery policies and procedures, ensuring they are embedded in daily practice.
* Support health and safety practices, including completing risk assessments and maintaining safe environments.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times.
* Assist the nursery in meeting EYFS and Ofsted standards.
8. Observations and Assessment
* Record learning and development updates in the nursery system (e.g., Famly) under supervision.
* Contribute to planning next steps for children's development and learning.
9. General Duties
* Assist in maintaining daily records, including registers, diaries, and accident forms.
* Help maintain resources, ensuring equipment is safe, age-appropriate, and well-presented.
* Support daily routines including mealtimes, toileting, and hygiene.
* Attend meetings, training, and apprenticeship-related learning sessions.
* Be flexible and willing to undertake additional duties to support the smooth running of the nursery
Person Specification
Essential:
* Enthusiasm for working with young children and supporting their learning and development.
* Willingness to complete an Early Years Apprenticeship qualification, including coursework and study.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Patience, empathy, and a positive, can-do attitude.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.
Desirible:
* Some experience working with children (e.g., volunteering, babysitting, school placements).
