Main duties of the job
We are looking for skilledBand 5 Occupational Therapists to provide specialist assessments andtherapeutic interventions for service users.
The team consists of an OTLead, three Band 6 Specialist OTs, five Band 5 OTs, a TI, a Horticulturaltherapist and a Tutor. We provide OT across 7 medium secure wards, supportingservice users experiencing mental health difficulties or learning disabilities.We adopt a recovery based approach, using evidence based interventions toinform our practice and ensure the delivery of high quality care.
A range of 1:1interventions and therapeutic groups are provided.
In this role you will gainexperience of working within a forensic setting, with service users presentingwith a wide range of conditions. You will have the opportunity to workcollaboratively with other professionals. JOB SUMMARY
Thepost holder will be required to work as an integral part of themulti-disciplinary team, providing occupational therapy assessment andtreatment for service users in receipt of in-patient care. Enabling service users to engage in a rangeof in-patient and community based treatment activities and supporting safe andeffective discharge. You will beactively involved in the promotion of occupational therapy within the servicearea. The post holder will be requiredto work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and the client group, and thiswill include weekends and evening working.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
Core Functions
1.Clinical
1.1To provide occupational therapy assessments forpeople accessing the service, prioritising on the nature, complexity andurgency of each individual case.
1.2To plan and implement an occupational therapytreatment programme on an individual and/or group basis, using graded activityto achieve therapeutic goals.
1.3To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment inorder to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
1.4To adopt a client centred and sensitiveapproach to therapy, collaborating with clients (and / or carer(s) whereappropriate) in all aspects of the therapy process.
1.5To select and conduct occupational therapyassessments, addressing the physical, psychosocial, behavioural, perceptual,cognitive, sensory and environmental needs of clients.
1.6To demonstrate a broad knowledge of the impactof disability, and to provide training and advice on lifestyles changes andadaptations to the clients psychosocial and physical environment, makingreferrals where appropriate.
1.7To work proactively alongside other staff andclients in meeting their needs and to assist each individual to integrate withinthe local community as fully as possible, using practical and creative problemsolving approaches to gain the active participation of services users.
1.8To participate in the discharge processidentifying appropriate resources and/or support in order to facilitateeffective discharge
1.9To provide occupational therapy reports onassessment and treatment by written and verbal reports to Consultants, GPs andother agencies involved, and to ensure that all correspondence relating tocaseload is dealt with promptly.
1.10To provide occupational therapy perspective inmulti-disciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, clinics and case conferences asrequired.
1.11To work to the standards and comply withprofessional ethics for occupational therapy practitioners as laid down by TheRoyal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT 2015), relevant DoH and otherlocal and national standards.
1.12To ensure that up to date records and activitydata are maintained in accordance with professional and Trust standards andpolicies.
2.Management andLeadership
2.1To manage your own caseload and day to dayactivities.
2.2To assist in the co-ordination of day to dayactivities of unqualified staff in the service area.
2.3To work effectively as a team member, operatingflexibly to meet the needs of the service and collaborating with other teammembers.
2.4Ensure the Team Manager is kept informed of allaspects of the work, especially the development needs of the service.
3.Communication
3.1To contribute and receive information as partof a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency team to provide a co-ordinated andeffective service to clients and carers.
3.2To communicate accurate and sensitiveinformation to clients and carers using an appropriate and accessible medium,taking into consideration relevant factors such as background, culture, gender,age and any physical, sensory or learning difficulties, adopting an empathicapproach at all time.
3.3To provide advice and information regardingoccupational therapy and communicate clinical skills and knowledge to others.
3.4To promote and understanding of the role ofoccupational therapy within the specialist area, negotiating priorities asappropriate.

Person Specification
Experience
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
* Training in OT specific assessment eg MOHO.

Qualifications
* COT Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy Degree OR Pre-registration MSC Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC State Registration.
