Overview

Band 5 Substance Misuse Nurse

Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire, Salisbury

Salary: £28,407 per annum

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time

Closing Date: 29 September 2025


What You'll Be Doing

* Conducting holistic assessments and providing evidence-based nursing interventions tailored to each client's needs.
* Delivering brief interventions, crisis support, and care planning in line with recovery-focused principles, including the 12-Step model.
* Assessing and monitoring medical detoxifications and other prescribed medications.
* Supporting clients\' physical and psychological wellbeing, helping them navigate challenges and work towards positive lifestyle changes.
* Triaging clients for further medical assessment with an ANP, GP, or psychiatrist as needed.
* Working collaboratively with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team to provide integrated, high-quality care.
* Maintaining accurate, timely, and professional clinical records.
* Administering medication safely, including controlled drugs, and ensuring strict adherence to safe storage procedures.
* Following infection control practices and reporting any maintenance concerns.
* Treating clients with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity at all times.
* Participating in supervision, reflective practice, and professional development opportunities.
* Contributing proactively to team meetings, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.


What We Are Looking For

* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
* Sound clinical knowledge and nursing practice experience
* Experience in substance misuse or related field
* Strong assessment skills, including risk assessments
* Experience of key working and care planning
* Knowledge of recovery approaches (including 12-Step model)
* Robust knowledge of medication rounds, safe storage, and administration (including controlled drugs)
* Awareness of health issues relating to substance misuse
* Knowledge and understanding of infection control
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
* Strong IT and accurate record-keeping skills
* Good time management and organisational skills
* Evidence of ongoing professional development post-registration
* Ability to reflect on practice and engage in further training
* Commitment to treating service users with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity
* Strong communication skills with warmth and empathy
* Knowledge of maintenance reporting processes (desirable)
