Head of Mental Health and Substance Misuse
Key Tasks and Responsibilities: The post holder will be expected to coordinate and lead team functioning with particular focus on:
* To be responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of quality mental health care for patients.
* To support the delivery of SECURE STAIRS with the Operator Performance monitoring and management, including engaging with commissioners and service evaluators as required.
* Line management and supervision of staff, including ensuring staff are supported to achieve a high standard of practice via regular supervision, support meetings, and personal development.
* To ensure appropriate professional supervision arrangements are in place.
* To actively manage a small caseload of complex patients.
* To ensure that the team provides effective and evidence-based interventions, guided by national, local, and professional standards.
* Ensure that the team functions in line with the agreed operational policy.
* Coordinate recruitment and selection of staff within the team, leading on decisions.
* Respond to serious untoward incidents appropriately and support any subsequent investigation.
* Ensure complaints are investigated fully within the time limits, with a proactive approach in accordance with policies.
* Support staff to achieve high standards through supervision, training, and development.
* Ensure robust service to carers, including assessment and support.
* Develop, review, and adjust job plans to meet service demands.
Performance Management: To provide effective leadership that promotes high standards and achieves organisational objectives.
* Assume overall management accountability for the team.
* Manage day-to-day operations within the operational policy.
* Provide leadership and professional advice to staff.
* Engage staff in achieving performance targets and improving service quality.
* Contribute to service development within the directorate.
* Implement risk management and health and safety practices.
* Ensure safeguarding policies are followed.
Management Responsibilities: Conduct and contribute to staff appraisals, coordinate practice development, and ensure appropriate supervision and training.
* Maintain effective communication through meetings and individual discussions.
* Respond to young people and carers' opinions and experiences.
* Lead continuous service development and high-quality delivery.
* Ensure clinical record keeping meets standards.
* Communicate effectively at all levels.
* Resolve complex clinical issues with staff and clients.
Clinical Responsibilities: Ensure effective communication systems, plan and deliver care, and prioritize clinical needs and risks. Work in partnership with young people and families, adhering to relevant policies such as the Mental Health Act, Children's Act, and Safeguarding Adults.
