The Barbican is a multidisciplinary international arts centre in the City of London. Across its theatres, concert halls, cinemas, galleries, business venues, public and community spaces, the Barbican showcases the most exciting artists and performers from around the world, pushing traditional artistic boundaries and helping us understand our lives in new and unexpected ways. Each year, the Centre presents hundreds of different performances, events and exhibitions that entertain and inspire millions of people, create connections, provoke debate, and reflect the world we live in. Firmly rooted in its neighbourhood, the Barbican collaborates on projects with local communities, and supports young people and emerging talent to develop their artistic practice and access jobs in the creative industry.
The Role
The Exhibition Production Manager will work closely with the Senior Producer, Producer and Head of Creative Programming, to deliver our Exhibition programme. The role will take particular responsibility for the detailed project management of the construction phase of the exhibition as well as the procurement of hi‑spec audio visual equipment, ensuring both exhibition build and AV equipment are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest possible standard.
The Exhibition Production Manager will ensure the highest standard of practice is delivered in design, build, procurement, risk management, Health & Safety, and the care of artworks, whilst working closely with curatorial and external stakeholders.
You’ll have leading experience and knowledge of producing new exhibition build, multimedia commissions and art handling, including the installation of complex interactive art works. With an ability to understand plans and technical specifications, you’ll be a leading member of the team on issues relating to design, build and managing the key processes related to this. A broad understanding of new developments and best practice in the museum, gallery and immersive sector with regards to exhibition installation and design is expected, along with experience of Health & Safety at work in relation to risk management and CDM regulations.
Benefits
We offer a wide range of staff benefits including a great pension scheme, season ticket, cycle to work scheme, free access to museums and galleries, discounts on retail, healthcare and on-site cafés and restaurants. You will have access to Employee Assistance Programme, trained Mental Health First aiders and City of London staff networks.
Equal Opportunities
The City of London Corporation wants to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the work that we do. The City of London Corporation is currently undergoing a programme to ensure that our pay and reward practices are competitive and equitable across the whole organisation – and is committed to regularly benchmarking and reviewing pay against external sectors.
As part of our commitment to increasing the diversity of staff within the Barbican we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from groups that are currently underrepresented, including people from the Global Majority* and D/deaf and disabled people. We want to better reflect and understand the communities we exist to serve. We are members of the Disability Confident Scheme and guarantee to interview all disabled candidates who would like to be considered under this scheme and who meet the minimum essential criteria for the role. Please contact us if you require reasonable adjustments as part of the application process.
* Global Majority is a collective term that refers to people who are Black, Asian, Brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the global south, and/or have been racialised as 'ethnic minorities'.
