About the Role
As Production Manager (Keymer / Specials), you will develop through hands - on leadership experience, coaching from senior managers, and structured training across production, quality, health & safety, and continuous improvement. You will receive full support to build specialist knowledge of Keymers heritage processes, including technical training on handmade tile production and bespoke specials.
Opportunities exist to progress into broader production leadership, technical or quality roles, or future management positions within the wider organisation, giving long - term career development across multiple sites and functions.
This role is primarily site - based, and only limited travel may be required for occasional meetings, training, or visits to other company locations. A full UK driving licence is helpful for flexibility but not essential for performing the core duties of the role.
This is a full - time, site - based role with standard working hours. Due to the hands - on nature of Keymer production, the role requires consistent on - site presence, but some limited flexibility around start and finish times may be possible. As the site is remote, having your own transport is strongly recommended. Hybrid working is not suitable for this position
You will also:
maintain strong oversight of health & safety practices, ensuring full compliance with company and legal requirements
lead day-to-day operations of the Keymer Tiles & Specials department, ensuring consistent output and exceptional product quality
manage and develop a skilled team of operatives, promoting a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement
ensure all products are manufactured to required standards, in line with heritage craftsmanship and customer specifications
oversee the scheduling, planning, and resource allocation for Keymer production activities
collaborate with Quality, Technical, and Supply Chain teams to ensure compliance with specifications and efficient throughput
identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and minimise waste
support new product development and specials ordersworking closely with design and commercial teams to deliver bespoke customer solutions
monitor production metrics, prepare reports, and track performance against KPIs
Foster strong cross-functional relationships to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery to customers
play a vital role in protecting the Keymer heritage brand, ensuring exceptional product quality, and delivering efficient, safe, and sustainable production. By leading and developing skilled craft teams, optimising processes, reducing waste, and supporting bespoke and specialist product growth, the role directly strengthens operational performance, enhances customer satisfaction, and helps the business achieve its strategic goals in quality, efficiency, heritage craftsmanship, and sustainability
Hours of Work: 7.00am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday
About You
Essential
Proven leadership experience in manufacturing, craft production, or a similar operational environment
Strong understanding of production processes, quality assurance, and workflow planning
Excellent organisational and team - management skills
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams
Commitment to maintaining safe working practices
Strong communication skills and a solutions-focused mindset
Excellent IT skills
Knowledge of Lean manufacturing
Possess high standards, a passion for improvement and a target/delivery focused approach
Sound knowledge of running a manufacturing process preferably ceramic
Desirable
Knowledge of ceramics, clay manufacturing, or a related craft/heritage sector
Experience delivering specialist or bespoke production items
Background in Lean, continuous improvement, or traditional craftsmanship environments
