SALARY: £47,790 - £53,100
LOCATION(S): Edinburgh or Leeds
HOURS: Full time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time at our location listed above.
About this opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity helping to deliver exciting customer outcomes, within our industry leading z Mainframe Lab DevOps team. We are looking for suitable candidates who can help us evolve the engineering experience on the platform, bringing in new technology, e.g. OpenShift, and to continue accelerating our adoption journey of the Group’s strategic pipelines, tooling, services and working practices that accelerate the flow of software development and infrastructure as code.

Key responsibilities
1. Collaborate with the Engineering Lead, Infrastructure Lead, Quality and Software Engineers to ensure that the Software Delivery Lifecycle is automated via the use of DevOps pipelines, tooling and automation.
2. Leverage GIS DevOps tooling and service to ensure strategic alignment across the Group.
3. Own the stability of build pipelines and environment automation. Work collectively across the team to ensure that any automation is robust and scalable.
4. Participate in team ceremonies to better understand the work through planning and commit to clear, achievable goals.
5. Participate in Technical Communities to keep abreast of the evolution of our roadmaps for DevOps.
6. Continuously improve technical and agile skills through on-the-job learning and training opportunities. Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends. Seek feedback and actively work on improving coding and problem-solving skills.
7. Taking ownership of specific problems and delivering customer focused outcomes
8. Be an ambassador for the z DevOps brand both internally and externally

What you’ll need
9. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
10. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
11. Experience with Git for version control
12. Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for automating builds or deployments
In addition, any experience of these would be useful
13. Technical experience of working on the z platform, e.g. COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL & Endevor
14. Technical experience of working with DevOps tooling such as CI/CD technologies (Jenkins/Harness/DevOps Deploy), Containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes/etc.), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Chef/Puppet/Ansible)
15. Solid core OS level skills (e.g. UNIX/LINUX/Windows/ZOS) with supporting industry standard scripting skills
16. Understanding of the end-to-end principles and concepts of DevOps and uses tools in assigned work. Identifies gaps in the team DevOps pipelines and drives improvements needed through security user stories/Epics.
17. The ability to use appropriate techniques for managing artifacts that require version control (including application source code, application configuration, scripts, etc.) and identifying what should not be in a source code system (including keys, secrets, binary artifacts, etc.). Techniques to include branching strategies, branch protection, PR event automation, etc.
18. The ability to design, implement and manage application pipelines using industry standard orchestration technologies, e.g. Jenkins, Azure DevOps Harness, Tekton, GitHub Actions including both Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.
