An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Clerk at Bedford Hospital.
The post will be an agile role working across the different wards within our department to suit the needs of the Trust. You will have interaction with patients and relatives as well as staff based at Bedford Hospital. You will be an organised, efficient and motivated individual who is trustworthy and reliable. You must be able to be adaptable within your work role to support the team in all aspects of ward administrative cover.

This is an exciting team that will give you the opportunity to grow and develop. The team consists of ward clerks and receptionists that work together sharing their knowledge and experience.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a ward clerk at Bedford Hospital.

1. To provide both a front line clerical service to clinical staff within the ward whilst also providing “front door” style support to patients and relatives during visits.
2. The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely inputting of patient level data into the relevant clinical systems for the capturing of admission, discharge and transfer of patients. This is to be done whilst also strictly adhering to trust data quality, health records and information governance policies.
3. It is expected that the post-holder will manage their workload in an effective and efficient way and have a flexible approach to covering various wards and the role as it continues to develop with the ever changing needs of the business.

1. Covering a range of shift patterns, wards and sites as required by the service, ward clerks will provide a consistent and robust administrative support on inpatient wards ensuring all standard clerking duties as documented in the ward clerk standard operating procedures are fulfilled.

2. Work to the agreed KPIs for Trust ward clerks for the purpose of quality and performance monitored against key organisational objectives.

3. All ward clerks will be expected to prioritise their work load effectively to meet the demands of the role.

4. As the first point of contact, courteously and efficiently receive all face to face and telephone enquiries from staff, patients, carers and external agencies in relation to hospital admissions, appointments and general enquiries, ensuring that accurate records, both manual and electronic,
are maintained and appropriate action is taken in a timely manner.

5. Provides a ‘front door’ meet and greet service, answers the telephone and deals with enquiries from hospital staff and the public concerning admission, transfer and discharge of patients. Ensuring correct information is made available, recorded or passed on to the relevant patient or member of staff.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
