Job title: Equipment Engineer

Reporting to: Site Manager

Working Hours: Predominantly M-F 08:00 - 16:00 with expectation to be available for planned out of hours engineering works.


Summary

To conduct, coordinate and manage equipment related maintenance and improvement activity in order that equipment availability, reliability and capability is continuously improved. Lead equipment related capital investment in association with the Compounding facilities and equipment budget. Ensure all equipment is calibrated and maintained in compliance with the requirements of cGMP, FDA, ISO13485 and EHS Legislation.


Responsibilities

* Demonstrate a Safety first approach to every single aspect of the role
* Lead trouble shooting, fault finding & resolution to root cause of compounding related plant and equipment
* Lead shutdown planning and execution, inclusive of shutdown and start up activities
* Implement the engineering improvement plan for the Compounding Unit
* Maintain high plant reliability to improve availability and OEE metrics
* Deliver best in class equipment availability and reliability through reactive, preventative and predictive maintenance techniques
* Plan and direct installation, testing, operation, maintenance and repair of all facilities and equipment within the Compounding Unit
* Develop and implement Preventative Maintenance procedures & schedules that assure equipment availability and product quality
* Act as an active member of the Perfect Equipment Steering Committee
* Provide a standardized Perfect Equipment system across the Compounding Unit in collaboration with local operational staff and the UK Engineering Manager
* Direct and coordinate engineering activities for all Compounding plant and equipment, managing contractors and service providers
* Coordinate and direct engineering projects to completed on time and within budget
* Perform administrative functions, review and write reports, and make decisions on purchase of parts, equipment and services
* Serve as Team member and Project Manager for delivery of the Site Project portfolio
* Identify and manage critical spares inventory and liaise with other Compounding Units for parts sharing
* Manage external contractors in line with EHS safe systems of work
* Manage external resources from OEMs, service providers, calibration providers, installations engineers and others within the Compounding Engineering Strategy
* Review contractors day sheets to ensure accuracy, problem resolution and cost effectiveness
* Make decisions on prioritising Engineering and Compounding activities
* Consult with other departments on production issues (Quality and Operations)
* Participate in Equipment portfolio lifecycle analysis aligned with capital expenditure budget setting
* Interact with the UK Engineering Manager, EHS, Unit Managers, Operations, Validation, Quality Management, Production Staff, Contractors, OEMs
* Communicate verbally by telephone and e-mail within the team and with stakeholders; lead and participate in meetings and write reports
* Attend daily briefing meetings as required and present to management when required
* Support other Units within the UK Compounding network as needed


Knowledge & Skills

* Cleanroom / aseptic manufacturing practical work
* Technical understanding of cleanroom plant and equipment
* Strong people, communication and computer literacy skills
* Experience in maintenance and project engineering functions
* Knowledge and experience of continuous improvement activities
* Knowledge and experience of engineering best practice
* Knowledge and experience of budget management


Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge

Qualifications Required : Good level of experience maintaining electrical and mechanical plant and equipment. A Craft Apprenticeship (HNC preferred) in Electrical, Mechanical or Instrumentation Engineering is required. At least 5 years’ experience as a hands-on multi-skilled engineer maintaining electrical, control, mechanical and pneumatic related plant and equipment. Ambitious, with strong emotional intelligence; this role offers potential for professional development. Experience of installation of new plant and equipment; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; responsive and flexible attitude to internal and external customer requirements; reliability-focused; ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines within a dedicated team.
